Wondering if anyone has experienced this issue and how it was resolved?

Haven't tested this in all apps, but it certainly does this consistently using Netflix and TV Shows.

Apple site isn't clear; but seems possible this is design intent?

All the other commands I've taught the AppleTV work fine; I've tried a couple of different code sets- currently using Pioneer Flat Screen set from 2008.

Remote is a Pronto TSU9400 if that matters.

Thanks...

Apple devices always did this.  Holding menu goes back to the main menu.  You should probably check your repeats that the Pronto is sending out to make sure a single press doesn't simulate a press and hold

Definitely check the duration of your code. Not experiencing that on my ATV 4K with various URC remotes. Alternatively, teach it (the ATV) all-new codes from some other random device in the Pronto database, like something from Sony or Panasonic.

Thanks both...

Daniel, that's what I did before writing... I'd been using some random BluRay codes, I just changed to using the Pioneer TV ones I'd mentioned in the original post. They are from the Pronto database, not learned, this is two different IR codes that behave the same.

I don't seem to be able to look at the hex for codes in the Database, am I missing something? Suppose I could teach it to another Pronto then look at it?

Could this behavior be related to an IR relay? There is a Xantech IR receiver, amplified connector block and flasher on the ATV... I will see if it still happens if I point the remote directly at the ATV. Seems odd it would affect only one code though.

It's the same command as the back key. We set it to 10 repeats and it becomes a "Home" key. So, a setting one 1 repeat is the next level up. This is in RTI/ProControl

...still having the same problem- pressing MENU key once almost always jumps all the way out to the top level AppleTV 4k menu.

Initially I tried to use codes for a Pioneer BluRay (BDP-120) for all the navigation and transport functions. This is fine for transport and for some of the navigation functions- but the AppleTV wouldn't learn MENU and OK. I changed the navigation functions to 'Pioneer Flat TV Plasma 2008 all models'. These learn fine, but I'm stuck with this problem.

I've tried learning a few times, in the dark, directly to the AppleTV vs IR relay but the result is always the same.

As mentioned I'm using codes from the Phillips database. Chose Pioneer because I no longer have any of their equipment in my system.

Daniel, is there a reason you recommended trying codes from Panasonic and Sony? I can do this but need to avoid Panasonic TV and Sony BluRay... Curious why they would be better...?

Thanks...

I use a Denon DVD in the URC database and never have a problem with menu.

Maybe try a URC remote, set repeats to 1, and learn it to Pronto??
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Thanks...

Don't have other remote options unfortunately...

I tried the codes for the largest- and I assume most recent Sony TV in the Phillips database... (50"!) and it solved the problem.

No idea why that code set should be better but it is.

I had some weird issue with the menu button on a 4K ATV until i turned off a feature. It was last year or the year before so i cant remember exactly. I think it was an accessibility feature.

I had a weird Apple TV menu button issue with a C4 system. The Apple TV refused to respond the IR menu command, even though the indicator light on the front of the Apple TV would blink, and all the other buttons seemed to work. Not only that, but another Apple TV in the system (same model) was working fine on the same driver.

Another C4 dealer told me to delete any "learned remotes" in the Apple TV settings. That fixed it. Not sure how since I never set up a learned remote....
