It's time for a wifi upgrade at my house. Spectrum is my cable provider. Overall, they are ok.

I have a 3400 sf ranch style house with the cable drop on the opposite side of where we spend most of our time; living room, kitchen, outside living area, etc.

I'm thinking about going to a mesh setup. You're the experts that deal in this all day long. I'd really like to get your input.

Thanks in advance.

Ubiquiti UniFi. Setting one up in my house today. Easy setup, works great. Add as many access points as you need. With me being on 2 1/2 acres, I deployed an outdoor one as well.

Eero, it just works.
I used to do ubiquiti and there is no comparison . More reliable, easier to maintain and better wifi performance.

I’m going to +1 this. As much as I hate to, it’s stupid good and reliable

Amazon bought Eero this year, raising data privacy issues.

I'm not saying it would be wrong to install, but they could scrape a whole lot of data.

Interesting that it isn't obviously Amazon's product, from looking at the Eero website.

It's a concern for many.

If you can afford the best, Ruckus. Handles whatever you throw at it and doesn't fail. Otherwise, eero is a great alternative!

I have been using Luxul for many years. Great tech support, but have had some issues... I have heard nothing but positive reviews about Eero. I have set up one client with Eero. So far so good. Not sure I can justify the cost of setups like Luxul with the new technology of Eero...I am about ready to switch to Eero even though I hate Amazon...

Do you have a basement?

I would recommend the same as what I tell clients- wire as much as possible and use WiFi for convenience/handhelds.

That said, if your house isn't really long & skinny and doesn't have wire mesh in the walls/ceilings, one EERO Pro and a Beacon should work- I'm using one in a large house and it hits almost every spot with good speed- I plan to add one more Beacon. In another house, I switched from a Luxul XWR-1750 to an EERO Pro- the Luxul seemed to be having some issues and the WiFi speed was never much higher than 55Mbps unless I was 3' away but in the adjacent room and through a 16" thick masonry wall, I saw 236Mbps. I updated the Luxul APs and will see how they perform but eventually, I plan to go with another Pro on the 3rd floor and a few Beacons to fill in the blanks.

If you keep Spectrum, get their basic modem and not a combo unit.

BTW- I had to open a couple of ports; one for the Request server and another for their camera DVR. Both needed to grab a new IP address in DHCP, then be set to static before rebooting, which took a few minutes for each but the reservations were stupidly easy in the EERO app. One of the reasons I have been using EERO is that I can monitor the networks and reboot, if needed.

The only thing I really wish Eero would change is to allow multiple SSIDs. Other then that it's been one of the most reliable products I've used in years and fixed many issues I see on jobs with more expensive and/or "robust" gear.

Why do you need a separate SSID?

Add another node/eero as a new network?

I wish they had an Outdoor unit!
