I've had intermittnet connection issues with the 310 at my house and feel like I've experienced problems at 1-2 clients too.

WattBox auto-reboot didn't seem to recognize the issue to reboot the modem/router which is weird, but manually rebooting the router seemed to fix the problem for a few days or weeks.

I finally did some troubleshooting a few days ago when my connection at home dropped and found that it seemed to be a issue with DNS not resolving properly.

I emailed Snap tech and they responded in about 5 minutes seeming to have knowledge of the issue and recommended DNS changes to the WAN & LAN which seems to have fixed the problem.

They did mention an upcoming firmware update to correct whatever the underlying issue is.

What are you using for LAN and WAN DNS?

I spoke with tech support and I'm using 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1 for the WAN butthey didn't suggest a LAN DNS

They said to set LAN DNS to the same 8.8.8.8 & 1.1.1.1

My house and all my client locations are with Cox Communications for the ISP just like the original poster.  Not sure if the problem is ISP dependent???

My desktop at home seems to resolve and display web pages slightly faster compared to the previous ISP provided DNS servers.

We were having intermittent DNS issues with a 110-WiFi unit.

It turned out to be a windows update being needed on the clients laptop. I have noticed on our windows surface field laptops they start acting weird when the update is ready to be installed.

Is it just me or do Araknis routers seem to have way more quirky issues than other routers?
I've stopped using them, my time is more valuable.

Absolutely. I removed the only one i had sold as it was a complete POS.
A $60 mikrotik outperforms araknis routers in every possible way.

I'm begining to realize this. I couldn't chance it with the Araknis piece and didn't want another failure. I'll have to test it at home. Didn't have time to wait for a replacement and threw in an Asus I had in the truck and was up and running in minutes. Now to take in up with Snap...

Iv'e used Araknis exclusively for the last 3 years, primarily because of OVRC.... There have been a few hiccups, but overall I'm happy. Could things be better? sure, what couldn't? With the Snap/Control4 merger, maybe we'll see some of the network products cross populate. It'll take a while as current and I'm sure next gen are all in pipeline and so they won't want to waste all the RnD until 2021....
As a matter of protocol, I use the 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 DNS settings in everything and try to segregate (VLAN) control from cams from customer add-ons (lights/door cams/any other freebees that they ad on without telling anyone..etc... so far so good.

For the win!!

Ditto this. Even better when you can create scripts to shutdown the wifi to the kids devices at night before bedtime.

Hello All,

We have a known issues where router is not resolving DNS properly. The symptom would be intermitten Internet connectivity. We are working on resolving this issue in our next firmware release in the near future.

If you do encounter this issue, we recommend you to do the following.

1. Changing Router WAN DNS 1 & 2 IP address to 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1.
2. If your network devices are setup to DHCP client, please go to Settings--> LAN--> DHCP Server Settings--> DNS Server Mode to change the DNS 1 & 2 to 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1. (This will allow the router to hand out the DHCP IP address to your client devices on the network with above DNS servers)

Please also contact SnapAV's support team for additional support if the above does not resolve your issue.

Thank you
Herman

Low and behold had a pre built rack that was briefly tested and brought online to ID hardware and update firmware and eveything was fine. Fast forward to a month later and I have the rack onsite today, get everything setup on LAN and everything appears to be working fine. Few hours go by and all the the sudden it begins to choke. Didn't have time to F with it so had to bypass and throw in temp router. I hope the above settings resolve this issue. I've already wasted lots of time and looked like an idiot on more than on occasion. smh

Those suggested settings should be used at all times anyways. Why would you want to rely on the ISPs DNS?

Been reading this thread with great consternation. I have had the same issues as the OP and others have described on several commercial/restaurant jobs with dire consequences and massive stress that occurred.

Network grinded to a halt with manager of said facility indicating "google won't load or any page for that matter" while I was on site. Sure enough it was true, rebooted modem and router and all seemed to work again. I finally heard from I can't remember where to use other DNS numbers which I switched to OpenDNS and these seem to be ok.

Could SNAP put a orange header on the OVRC page or send out urgent e-mail to indicate this issue instead of me finding out about it on a message forum?

The other issue is with the WAP's from Araknis, I guess the recommendation is to turn off band steering? Plus is the damn WAN 2 port now active so I can have fail-over ISP redundancy with these new routers. Thank goodness I still have plenty of the old ones working with WAN 2 and none of the DNS issues that there are now.

Finally, would SNAP buy or develop some sort of top down controller based technology (unifi or luxul style) for their WAPs, I don't enjoy doing all that extra work--yes I know I can upload a backup to the another WAP but the changes I might make in the future sometimes are easier doing ala-carte per unit. Plus the save and reboot times and if it reloads are so wonky.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

I would recommend that you look into a more professional product to use in commercial environments.
In commercial the network not working can cost a business thousands a minute so I’d only use a product that has 24/7 support not a Monday-Friday only support.

Hell my residential clients won’t tolerate this.

Any one know if Sn@p has that Wan #2 port failover software update coming soon for the AN-310-RT-4L2W. I have several high traffic restaurants that need this ASAP--using the 310 Router in 2 of them since they don't have the old 300's any more.

Maybe someone could point me to a network device which could take 2 ISP Wan address and then send them into the existing Araknis 310 Router's Wan 1 to have a kludged together failover setup? Not really interested in switching out the 310 Araknis router at this point.
