Can't you rent one of the locators?

Also, in some states you can call 811 for locator service.
The free ones may be limited to public utilities only, but I've had guys that for 20 bucks would run that probe all over the property.
Private locator companies will obviously do whatever you contract them for.

The human body acts a bit like a ground, which the above examples tell us will increase the signal.

I take it you mean connecting one lead to a ground and the other lead to the hot conductor inside a coaxial cable. I don't see why that would work better and it's been my experience that it doesn't. As they say, YMMV.

When connecting to the shield i have found that the signal is scattered. So if you have 7 RG-6 running in a bundle (for example) from the head end out to nearby rooms where they then separate and go their own way...sometimes the toner "rings" on multiple cables. When you use the center conductor its easier to pinpoint the correct cable.

I've been able to rent the Greenlee detector that was linked earlier in this post.  Used it 2-3 times over the years to locate underground wires in PVC conduit.

The OP referenced "buried wires" but seems he might be referring to wires in the walls, not in the ground, so not sure how well this unit would work.

Does anyone have a good tool they use for locating buried wires. Working on a project that have a lot of wire buried and need to find them. Cat6 wires, Crestnet wires, speaker wires.

I use the Fluke intellitone, and this is good for some things, but not very good at finding or tracking wires in the wall.

Was looking at an Amprobe but hesitant to spend the money unless I know it is going to work. Called the company and they did not recommend for Low Voltage wires, but then I read the manual and it talks about how to use with Low Voltage wires. Left me with even more concerns.

Has anyone used this or have something they do use that works good.

I have a cheap toner from Skywalker with the inductive wand and it works as well as the Fox And Hound models I have used, etc. Connect the black to something that's metal- doesn't matter if it's grounded, then press the button of the wand. It's amazingly loud. You may want to bare the end of the shielded cables but you should still be able to hear something when you pass over the cable paths. I usually clip the black lead to one of the folding metal supports on my ladder to amplify the tone.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."
