I have a RoKu ultra into a Sony ES810. when i play any content the sony scrolls (PCM 2.0(2/0( 48Kzz,....) on the display - stereo 2 channel, not Dolby Digital like I expect.
All of the roku settings are for dolby digital plus/DTS,
I swapped in a sony blu ray and it scrolled Dobly Digital. Sony is set to A.F.D.

thoughts?

Does the Sony have the ability to decode Dolby Digital +?
If not, that is the problem.

All depends on the content being played. I just went through this recently using and HDMI audio extractor. Customer complained only getting PCM into his AVR over toslink.
