I am doing the C4 door station on a gate. The gate company is washing their hands of any control aspect because we’re not using their pedestal. The pedestal I’m using will have to have a Knox Box added.

What is the procedure to install one? I assume it’s nothing more then a contact. I also assume it needs to go back to the gate control unit and not the C4 system?

This is the first time a gate company has said F you and washing their hands. Unfortunately this is the only gate company in town so we’re stuck.

You'll need to contact Knox, they are in Phoenix, and order a key and box from them. They will have your local fire department in their database so the key cylinder they send you works with the local FD keys. The key provides a contact closure that should go to the fire key input on the gate controller. Interesting that the gate contractor is trying to get out of the mix, out here you have to have the FD come out and measure the gate clearance plus test the key to get permit sign off.

Maybe the gate company has had to deal with some Karens. (See reddit.)

Definitely google knox box! There's a lot of information in the wikipedia article on them, and probably a lot of it is true.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

The Knox lock is just a key switch... Contact closure you feed to your access system.

Do you have the Knox switch already? Or are you asking about the process of getting the Knox switch as well?
