I need to overhaul an old 6x4 component based video distribution system where 2 of the 4 zones have surround sound with AVRs, and two zones just play TV audio through the TV speakers.

I’m thinking of either SnapAV or J&P. In either case, how do I get audio from the sources to the AVRs? Is the best practice to add an RX for each AVR?

The control system is Control4.

Thanks.

I'm not following...maybe because I just woke up. Each of the 4 video zones should already have a receiver. Just take the output of that into the AVR then HDMI from AVR to display.

Sorry, to clarify, the AVRs are in the rack with the sources, and there is cat6 from the rack to the TVs.

Depends on the ability of the TVs, that DON'T have AVRs, to decode Dolby/PCM. If the TVs are pretty new, you can just use the Loop out of the TX devices to feed the AVRs (HDMI). If any of the TVs can't do it, you'll have to set the TX to 2-channel, and the loop out will also be 2-channel. I ran into this on a recent project.
The best (easiest) and future proof solution (as more sources are added) would be to add a RX to each receiver.
Note: Some "older" equipment may pose HDCP issues. Moip does allow for 1.4/2.2 settings to work around this (I also had to deal with this on an older system). MOIP does NOT do audio down mixing or striping, so you will be limited to the "weakest link", audio wise. Using as many of the TX/RX combos as possible and upgrading any older TV's (usually small kitchen or secondary areas) is really the best solution

If I place a MOIP Rx at each receiver, might there be sync issues?

What if I put an Rx before the AVRs and a TX after the AVRs? Then the AV stream can potentially follow the traditional path where audio and video go from source to AVR and then video continues along to the TV from the AVR. I guess I would need the Control4 drivers to allow you to specify the desired path so video doesn’t go direct from source to display?

Since the AVR is in the rack, use this instead

Run HDBT to the display and the mirrored HDMI to the AVR

If you have to keep the higher audio formats in the surround zones, use this.

If I didn’t go with MOIP, I would probably go with that AVPro matrix and use mirrored outputs. However, I would like to know how to handle this situation with MOIP because of the various benefits MOIP provides such as future expandability.

RX at the AV receiver, then HDBaseT HDMI extender from the AV receiver monitor out to the TV.

Or, RX at the receiver and RX at the TV.
