Wondering how many of you saw Hunter Douglas’s recently announced custom installer program and what you think?

The program provides dealers with access to the full line of HD products as well as the HD Installation Service.

HD recently brought over senior management from Control4 for product and sales, so I’m pretty confident that they are serious about the CI channel and know what to do to make us successful with their product.

(I was going to post dealer setup cost and min annual sales but not sure that’s appropriate for a public forum. I think both amounts are reasonable.)
If it's not simple, it's not sufficiently advanced.

One of my clients has HD blinds- got them through her designer and the installer had problems connecting the hub to the router- certainly wasn't due to signal strength but the hub seems to be too far from the blinds it's controlling, so.....

He hasn't been back, even after several calls. Now that HD has a CI program, I'm going to get set up and fix it for her- I tried to get the login info for the hub, but the guy hasn't even returned her calls. I guess he likes to take the money and run.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

I have no experience with them but many other dealers have said HD blinds are crap with a capitol C. Both in how noisy the motors are compared to the better brands and how crappy the control is (and lack of).
I wouldn't be so quick to jump at signing up. Unless you like giving yourself pain.

What I’m hearing is that HD was crapo until recently, when the fruits of the new product team came to be.

Lutron, certainly. qMotion, I’ve heard very mixed things about.

Some of you guys sound like gluttons for punishment.
I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's AV trouble, a man alone.

We did a job with Qmotion, getting tired of the calls from client about how often they stop working. Also have a couple I the office, they scare the crap out of us every few days. They seem to self test or something...random open about 3 inches and jog up and down an inch or so like 2 times then close.
Fit and finish is ok, of course they quit with honeycombs and probably why.
There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

I'm really thinking of checking into it because it's apparent that the designer who sold the HD blinds to my client chose an installer who doesn't know about WiFi and when I went to the Ace Hardware store near my house that also sells them, I asked about setup and they knew almost nothing. Seems like there's an opportunity here. As long as I don't need to take the grief about the noise (I really didn't hear much sound when I cycled them) and it's not my problem if the windows were measured wrong, I don't see my of a problem.

I called HD a while back and the person I spoke with admitted that they need to get their heads out of their butts WRT the app.

Well, this IS America, after all. Land of gluttony. And participation ribbons.

If not, why is anyone still in this business?

You know it's true.... :-)

I don't see much of a problem.

So they get installed, and you are the last guy in, who actually gets them working. The last guy in. And you don’t see that as a problem when they start acting up?
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Thinking of getting a part time job so I can get a raise.

Hi all,

My name is Scott Stephenson. I'm the director of product for all motorized shades at Hunter Douglas. I joined HD about two years ago after managing the lighting control business for C4 for many years so I definitely know the CI space and how important good integration is.

Just wanted to let y'all know I was here in case you need any assistance with our shades. Feel free to PM me.

Scott
