W...T...F...???

Kidding about the last part but someone had to have thought it was a good enough idea to add them. HEOS and MusicCast have 12V triggers and HEOS & MusicCast small speakers have a brick style power supply, so it's easier to use them in a surround system when mounted higher on a wall.

Mounted high on a wall???

The interior designer requested it?

English must be failing me today, I don't understand what highfigh is talking about.

I'm pretty sure he said (and possibly others) requested an external power supply for the new Portal (previous Connect). Rather than having it built in and only a power cord going to it.
But then he starts talking about 12v triggers, small speakers, etc... Am I confused or is he?

"SONOS Portal", the replacement for the SONOS Connect. Now has an external power supply (brick) instead of just a power cord.
Are you saying highfigh that 'this' is your preferred configuration for this device? If so, why?

Seeing the error in his ways, and that an entire generation of CIs are stuck with his mandate for the next ten years, he has gone under cover.

Portal - group of lying thieves that promise one thing but deliver another

Port - new sonos streamer to replace Connect.  Would also accept a wine, often used for cooking, or on a computer and telecommunication devices, a port (noun) is generally a specific place for being physically connected to some other device, usually with a socket and plug of some kind.  Also, we can accept a maritime facility which may comprise one or more wharves where ships may dock to load and discharge passengers and cargo

The small HEOS speakers have external brick power supplies, both nothing in Yamaha's range does outside of the long-gone bigger clock radio, even then it was just an oversized power wart.
The HEOS Amp / MusicCast WXA50/WXC50 all have triggers, it was odd that Sonos didn't have it.

Still confused as to why Sonos decided to move to an external power brick...
This industry is not getting cheaper and cheaper, we're simply convincing ourselves that we have to push the cheapest option to customers.

They should add the ability to run 2 subs in a room, too.

In an effort to eliminate the jungle of modular power supplies, I think that we should be migrating to a single, multi-output power supply for our installations. This will probably reduce service calls too.

In my opinion the equipment manufacturer will carefully design and test their product, but it's the purchase agent who digs up the cheapest power supply that is certified for each market. I always make sure that I carry a voltmeter along whenever there are modular power supplies in an installation. A quick check of voltages can save hours of troubleshooting intermittent quirks.

Woohoo! So instead of having to troubleshoot one nagging room issue, the phone call comes through, “My whole system is dead and there are 50 people here!”

And you are on holiday with the family.

I was kind of hoping for a small device that can be mounted behind the TV & just has an ARC input to pair with amps in a rack. Would save from running HDMI or using extenders, digital to analog converters & IR repeaters. As much as I’ve hated ARC when it was first implemented it has been rock solid with the new Sonos equipment.
Knowing that Gold went up a few K makes me think "well now I have to do a better job on selling more equipment".

Who said anything about an interior designer? I meant wall-mounted surround speakers.

NO! Speakers- Play one or Play 3, not the Connect! Why would anyone want that mounted anywhere other than with other equipment?

Jesus. Why would a Play One need a 12V trigger? Do the HEOS Amp and Link have a 12V trigger? Do the similar MusicCast pieces have 12V trigger? Yes, they do and it's very helpful. Sonos was the only one of them that didn't.
