You have to read :)

"Genie 2" systems (HS-17) can ONLY have client boxes on the account. And a "Genie 2" can only stream to 7 boxes at a time. The total number of boxes on the account is at least 8 (by everything I have been told and verified) but could be as many as 11 (although I have no idea if Ed has actually seen an install yet with that many).

A regular Genie system (HR-54, -44, -34) can have an unlimited number of boxes. I have many systems out there with dozens of receivers on them.

correct, but to clarify. on the regular genie, you can only have 3 active clients streaming from it simultaneously. so consider a genie and 3 clients max. however.......... you can have any number of other HD-DVRs and HD boxes on the account. we regularly have 12-16 directv receivers on an account.

with a Genie 2, you are not only limited to the maximum number of clients the Genie 2 itself will support (we think 8) you are limited by the fact, that is the only receivers you can have on the account. you cannot have ANY OTHER RECEIVER on account. Period.
I love supporting product that supports me!

I had been told 11 by a DirecTv person when I had to phone in something recently. However I just reached out to a guy whom I trust a lot at Solid Signal and he said 8 is the limit for clients on genie 2

It maybe something that has changed recently.
When I was researching that answer yesterday, a couple of call center workers that are on the AT&T support forum boards said "DirecTV customers that have been migrated to AT&T accounts, specifically RC1 accounts, can only have 8 receivers authorized for an account". But they also seem to indicate that was for any AT&T account, no matter what receivers are used.
So it maybe that customers that got early Genie 2 systems (before the their accounts got transitioned to AT&T) might have been able to get as many as 11 clients on a Genie 2 system. IDK.

What I do know is, AT&T is the biggest disaster of a corporate company ever. Following that same mentality of "we are to big to fail". There is no such thing, it just takes a lot longer to disintegrate. And once that is far enough along, there is no saving it.
I fully expect AT&T will breakup into several small entities, with huge losses in the massive bankruptcy case either pre or post. I just wouldn't even want to guess on a time frame - it could take several more years.

An important detail is that the number of things you can plsy from a dish is TUNERS, not RECEIVERS.

Btw, one of the things a DirecTV system can do is network using DECA, which is thei version of MoCA. I have a client who bought a flip. Great house, except the people who flipped the house cut all the internal phone wires (which were CAT-3 anyway). RG6 still runs through the building and I was able to supply wired network everywhere needed using DECA components.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

11 TVs 7 simultaneous streams

DirecTV told client he's maxed out with 8 receivers/ 11 tuners on his HS17 system. From what I found on Solid Signal and other sites this seems to be true.

If this is true, I need to figure out a way to get a signal out to the Gazebo wirelessly. I can steal one of his wireless receivers and ask him to possibly stream his DirecTV on that TV OR even just stream DTV to his outdoor TV for how little he may be using it. I honestly haven't dealt with direct streaming app from DTV so not sure if it'd work. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

AT&T has managed to make DTV an experience worse than Time Warner ever
was. Would not have thought that possible....

This is a great thread and couldn't agree with the above statement more.

Recently ran into the 8 box limit (non genie) system. Set up a second account. Now have 16 boxes and will setup a 3rd account for the guest house. Was a little frustrated that things had changed but at least they showed up
