I believe the motor (magnetic side) is installed on the side that is ported to topside for ventilation. If it were installed on the other side, it wouldn’t be able to cool off as that side is (suppose to be) completely sealed off. Besides, it wouldn’t matter as the speaker is thrusted in both directions. Remember you’re dealing with audio which is AC to a speaker.

But I think these problem subs were built on a Friday and the employees wanted to go home. 🙂

They don’t have Fridays in China.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

ive seen more bandpass boxes with the drivers motor structure in the sealed portion than in the ported version. im not sure about your ventilation theory. not to mention it stays pretty cool a foot down, at least in most soil.
I love supporting product that supports me!

It’s actually in the literature of this sub...

“ Low-Heat Design*
Our inverted band-pass design puts the woofer’s voice coil and magnet on the ported side of the cabinet. This provides a constant flow of fresh air, which keeps things cool for trouble-free performance. *Applies to 12" only.”

Translation:  We screwed up when designing the enclosure and the cutout for the driver was too small of a diameter, so we inverted the sub to move these POS's.

Seems like a liberal application of Duct Tape should fix everything.

It’s funny that my James/sonance rep pointed this design flaw out years ago.
In general he was always a straight shooter. I just always wondered if it was an actual issue. Guess it was/is.
Just goes to show a good rep can be very beneficial to your business.

Well there you go. that makes no sense!! Open the motor structure to moisture and humidity to keep it cool!! Weird

This kind of thinking is why we can't have nice things.

As Tom Waits wrote in 'Step Right Up', "The large print giveth and the small print taketh away".
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

Pretty much irrelevant since I get water on both sides of the woofer.  Not just moisture but measurable water.  Lifting a heavy 12" sub out of the ground is bad enough.  Lifting a heavy 12" sub full of water out of the ground is percocet territory

See, with a series of levers and pulleys,......
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."
