So I Called up SNAP today after getting the email and after waiting about 5 mins on hold I asked the CS rep what were the requirements for becoming a C4 dealer.

She told me that I must travel to a training location and to be certified it takes about 4-6 WEEKS!! of training. I asked her to repeat that - 4-6 weeks? she says yes. and repeated again. I said surely you mean days - NO - WEEKS she tells me.

I said I have to take a MONTH off work and live in a hotel to become a C4 dealer? YES.

Now I know that is not true but I just wanted to see how the training rollout was going and as i suspected- exactly as i expected.

what if I asked a Difficult question???
I AM responsible for typographical errors!
I have all the money I will ever need - unless i buy something..

It’s pretty much always been a few days.
There is no way it would take a month

When I did the certification it took 3 days in SLC and they paid for the training and hotels. Just had to cover the travel.

I called too and said I was an electrician and have a large resort project that we'd like to do control 4. I told her I have a hard time tie-ing my own shoes but this project was going to be over 3 mil and they signed me up in 3 minutes and 12 seconds.

j/k but you know they would.

Should have asked what it takes to become a SnapAV CS rep.

I am not on that side of the biz anymore but I believe that most of the training is being moved on-line with proctored online exams like the PCNA program on networks....that is probably the 3-4 week comment on how long it takes to get though the courses with a modest amount of free time engagement.
Jack Rainey - Full disclosure...reformed integrator, now mid-Atlantic manufacturers rep for: Integra, Paradigm, Anthem, Parasound, Atlona, LG TV's and Metra Home Theater...among others

As far as I remember, 3 days in SLC for Composer training and test. Nowadays, it also includes a hefty buy-in, with annual numbers and purchased controllers to be met. I believe they now require 1 PCNA certified tech in the business.

If you know networking and have taken similar classes before, you can breeze through the PCNA course, like I did.

I would bet the large buy in an large annual numbers are out-the-window.

A large buy-in is probably going to be gone. But certainly a good size buy-in will remain.
The large annual numbers I bet will absolutely stay. Even Snap themselves have been pushing their own branded stuff with higher & higher annual numbers. One of many reasons why I left Snap AV.

URC cut the ties with Snap.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

We are interested in bringing on C4. I guess we were planning on waiting until at least the inked dried before we looked into it more! LOL. Not day 2! Wait long enough, I'm guessing they will have more local trainings at Allnet, Volutone, etc. and no travel will be required.

Hey FunHouse,

For Control4, once approved as a dealer there’s online training first (2-3 hours), then actual class time of 4 days in a Control4 classroom (3 locations in the US, 4 more around the world). For your first installs, technical field reps can be onsite with you, if requested. The training is free, you just pay your way (hotel and airfare). Usually you can get into the training classes pretty quickly, but depends on the site you select. I actually attended the class earlier this year in Charlotte and thought it was a great way to get started and understand Control4.

You can see the requirements and learn more about it on the Control4 site: [Link: control4.com]

Sorry about the miscommunication. We’re just beginning to bring the companies together, unfortunately there will be a few bumps in the road as we get all of the teams up to speed.

I worked for a C4 dealer in '05 and have thought about the possibility of taking it on but would like to see it in action without going to a competitor's showroom, for several reasons- #1, they want to use the showroom for paying customers, not a potential competitor for a brand. #2, they may be busy and I don't want to take their time when they could be making money.

Is it possible that Snap & C4 could work out a way to have a slightly interactive site, kind of the way some apps have a Demo mode? I would like to see some options for graphics, overall layout and maybe a light tutorial on programming without having to commit a lot of money and time going to SLC for training.

Does C4 have videos that we could access on YouTube?

Edited- I called and found that new dealers still need to go through C4 for application, training, etc- nothing has changed at this point.
