If I remember it right, this particular box is RF only. But you can get what you want with this information about how to bypass spectrum cable box. Read the article carefully and follow the instruction. This information helped me a lot with bypassing my spectrum box, and now I have the TV services entirely for free. If you get any problems with the bypassing process, let me know in a private message or answer on this topic, I will be glad to assist you. Have a good day, Ernie Gilman!

No, it's not. It CAN use RF, but out of the box, it uses IR. To use RF, the remote and box must be paired, as long as it comes with the newer style remote. The old style remote with the device buttons across the top operates the new boxes (101/110, 201/210).

just a thought, but i've been controlling my Spectrum 210-H DVR for a few years using a raspberry pi that blinks IR using an IRToy. the configuration file i use for the spectrum box is the frequency / pulse / protocol definitions for emulating a standard IR remote. i recently discovered a function that was not in the configuration file. i added it to the config file and i could use that "key"!

the key was the "BACK" button on the Official remote that i never use. it has a "code value" of 0x3E7031

now i'm looking for a similar "code value" for a key that my Harmony Remote system knows about, but not me. the key: LIVE

anyone know how to find this information?

The wild woolly and antique world of the original Pronto has software that different users found or wrote to allow all sorts of manipulations of IR codes. I used these things about a dozen years ago to find all the different codes of a codeset. I cannot remember the names of the programs, but people who still lurk in the Original Pronto forum should be able to help you.

In my case I had several commands for a particular component and the software made it possible to generate all the codes for that particular codeset; they could then be tried out to see what they did. The only watchits were that if a code was only used after one other particular code was used, you'd never know it; and if a code put a component into a programming mode (for instance), you'd not know it and might brick the unit because, depending on what codes you were messing with, once you were in the programming mode you would not know which buttons to push to get out of programming mode.

Note: a watchit is a situation where, as you creep up on it, the hair on the back of your neck rises and all your senses shout WATCHIT ! ! at you.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

(tackily answering my own post)

i found a complete LIRC configuration for this DVR/receiver. specifically, the "model" of the one i command is Spectrum210-H but it's the same command set (now expanded) i used in the previous DVR tagged from "Time Warner" / TWC.

i have consolidated as many buttons / codes as i can; 43 buttons in all.

the file is here:       [Link: wtmi.net]

i use this with LIRC (on a raspberry pi) to send IR commands to the Spectrum DVR.  not sure if you can use the format or information.

good luck.
