I acquired a Roku 4 and have a client who needs a streaming device for TV programs. He's an Apple guy. I'm replacing his Integra receiver, in which the power amps have died for the second time in six years, with a Yamaha receiver. I'm then going to program his URC remote to control the new receiver.

However, I'm a reddit user and I see A LOT of "Roku can't" and "Roku won't" threads. Is this truly indicative of what you can expect in general from Roku performance? Should I just get my client an Apple TV and let it go at that?

I'd like your opinions on this. And thanks.

And Happy Father's Day, too!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Roku 4 is pretty good. Sometimes lip sync issues on Amazon Prime.

Ultra seems to be best choice.

If he’s an Apple guy, stick with Apple. Also, ATV has had less lockup issues lately and less needs to be rebooted.

As Fins said; if he is an Apple guy then he should get an Apple TV not a Roku. The Apple TV is going to have tight integration with his Apple account and all his other devices. This is what Apple does.
The only reason for someone like that to not get an Apple TV, is if they are being cheap or if there is a particular service he wants that is not available on Apple TV.

What is the "Roku can't" or "Roku won't" that you speak of?

What is it that the clients are wanting to do with either device?

Brad, Fins, BINGO.

He already has three Rokus in the house. He didn't happen to mention that and we haven't discussed the plans for this change for two months.

Thanks for the good advice.

Have been loyal to AppleTV for quite some time and initially enjoyed IP control but it has some flakeyness to it. Not releasing 4K capability with gen4 was a tough hit and the surprising lack of franchising Xfinity streaming app has really chapped my ass too. RoKu has won me over completely.

The fact he already has three Roku's in the house and hasn't mentioned liking or disliking them would lead me to putting in another Roku. Ask him and give him the option.
We try to be consistent on user interfaces/ products to get less tech calls. The end user will understand things better when various rooms are the same/ similar.

If there are already three ROKU’s, I would go with ROKU. If the customer really does not like ROKU for some reason, then replace all of the ROKU’s with AppleTV. I don’t see the point in having a mixed system.
