Nope, Snap is requiring $10K a year now to get even basic dealer services - free shipping, advance replacement, access to all the products, etc.
You know, the stuff you just get for being a dealer, with any other distributor.
Makes it not such a good idea for most small 1 man shops to do business with them.
Amazon is actually a better choice than that. Sad :(

This ^
Dont forget the price increases several times in the last couple of years.
ive been moving business slowly away from snap as I find products I like elsewhere.

Oh and you get to pay more, not get free shipping and put on hold for ridiculous times with tech support when you need them.

Wattbox issues.....enough said.

Gave up on avad years ago.

Distributors are making less and less sense. I really like the idea of one stop shopping and a distributor with a compatible product mix is handy, but prices are going up, we generally must pay shipping, contacting someone can be arduous, and defective exchanges can be time consuming to work through. Then there are the websites that were designed in the 1980’s (yes I know that the web was not yet invented). And, we often can’t get tracking info until after the product is delivered.

Amazon often has price parity, it’s relatively easy to find things, there is no waiting for a rep, and there is a tight tracking loop.

Ya, tv margin is nicer with distributor as is having some protected products that aren’t whored out all over the web. But amazon is def convenient and you are right about distrib tracking information, contacting people, exchanges. All a PiA.

Snap pisses me off too with the minimums.

There is no tech support from Amazon but your order arrives in 2 days and there are no games when you want to return something. If you cant get your distributors to take/ship your orders then its a no brainer...use Amazon.

But...this isn't 1987. You can order things online and have them shipped to you. We have a local disty that i love...Allnet...that got "snapped" up by snapav. I cant think of a single negative thing to say about snapav. I dont handle the business/$ end of things but i can tell you this...its easy to hit $10k per year. Wire/Network gear/racks should put you close.

Remember a few years back when they sent everyone in their database an invoice for 100k or more just randomly?

That was awesome.

Hey, I'm going to try that. If even one person falls for it, it's worth the effort.

I think there was some dude that just got busted for sending invoices to google, apple etc for 2k, 4k or other random smallish amounts. They paid them for years, until someone finally caught on. He think he raked in a couple million.

There is an organization that sends out bogus tickets to drivers who traverse the streets of the Santa Monica mountains (primarily from Hollywood hills to Topanga Canyon). They have appx 10-15 cameras set up, they take pics of your license plate and send out official looking tickets with a pic of your car and license plate. They even have their own Kangaroo court if you decide to fight it (no one ever wins in their court). I heard they raise appx $500-750k a year (maybe even more). There was even an article in the LA Times several years back

I received one of their tickets and threw it away. They have no municipal jurisdiction and cannot do anything. They don't have your SS# so they can't even blemish your credit history. But there are suckers born every minute and they are taking that all the way to the bank.

Depends on what you are talking about. Obviously no one is getting a remote from amazon or speakers but if you need banana plugs TOMORROW and your distributor (see original post) wont even respond to you what choice do you have?

Use them occasionally here in Canada, but wow, the Canadian branch is not bad I guess, same day shipping with tracking available right away. And I email this one dude I saved his email because he responds pretty quick. I called once or twice and it was not a long wait Any questions I email that guy, and orders I do online.

I think you should at least give Wave a chance. They built a great distributorship and gained a lot of great lines. Mark Fakuda is a good guy, man..... he is an old car stereo guy.....I am an old car stereo guy. In the old days, you graduated out of car stereo in to homes. Give him a chance to implement what he did at Wave throughout the AVAD world. AVAD is no longer. Wave will be the new name and the policies of the old Wave will trickle down and replace those of the old AVAD. You will still have some old faces that you love and maybe some new blood to form a relationship with. Demand that they stock the stuff that you need to run your business...your way....not snapped up......

I have been doing business with them for a while. In the beginning, they did have some of the quality lines that I liked to sell. They worked hard and built something big, and they did it fairly quick. Being bought out was the best scenario for the investors...wider distribution with both and Mark to run it like he did the original Wave for Gary.

I have known a lot of these guys, worked with them, been down the road with them.

We use the Toronto branch all the time and have never had an issue with responses, orders, etc.

Any questions are answered and the sales people that I have dealt with have always answered the phone or returned my call. Emails get answered and responded to almost instantly. If they have questions they pickup the phone and call.
You can't fix stupid
