So, I saw an official announcement (presumably, this is the internet of course) about the discontinuation that had been rumored for a while. What I couldn't understand is that the reason they gave for it is stuff like the Echo, Z-Wave, hubs and wi-fi based stuff. But the Omni was targeting primarily pros, and I can't imagine any of them replacing it with any of those types of products, either in terms of reliability or margins or anything else pros care about. So it was sort of a weird juxtaposition.

Were none of you installing Omnis or something? Or is this a sign of some major collapse in the lower-mid realms of the pro automation market and Lutron just wants to cut its loses? It certainly doesn't sound like they have any plans for any replacement.

If the former, I can't imagine it's because you replaced them with Z-Wave, so maybe the Omni was just losing to some other pro-level products and it isn't anything more ominous than it just wasn't competing? Or is the whole sort of Elk/OMNI layer of the pro market about to drop off to the bottom of the ocean?

What has Lutron got to do with OMNI Pro? We are talking about the former HAI product owned by Leviton now, correct?
I'm guessing you mistyped that and meant to say Leviton instead of Lutron?

Everyone knew when Leviton bought HAI, it was going to be the end of HAI as we knew it. As usual, none of us knew how many years it would take. But we all did know it was going to happen eventually.
And here we are.

Sad. But true:

This same story plays out over and over again. Whenever I hear a story about a big company buying a little company I place a bet with myself on just how long it will take for the little company to be gone, or reduced to a joke.

My HAI rep told me over a year ago Leviton was putting ZERO dollars into Omni line and it expect it to go bye bye.

So, what exactly did Leviton get/want from the HAI purchase? While the Omni was overpriced, it was a rock solid product. In its hay day, there really was nothing as powerful. It was a go-to product for early home automation.

Given its lack of network functionality, it was on its deathbed without an influx of cash and R&D prior to the Leviton purchase. One thought was Leviton would bring it to the next level, but they quashed it. Still scratching my head on WTF Leviton wanted and or got out of the purchase. Not making any sense of it.

In that press release at the top, it said The Future is On.

Should say, "The Future is Now Off"
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Yeh, sorry, I meant Leviton. Too many companies, too few brain cells. I get that often these types of products die on the vine after purchase. Though I agree that it's hard to see what they got out of it if their intent from the start was to let it die and not replace it. Was there some other HAI technology they really wanted, to incorporate into some other leviton products?

And I guess what's also really confusing is their pointing people to low end consumer stuff as a replacement. So they are dropping a pro product mostly sold by pros, but pointing folks towards consumer stuff that a pro probably would never use as a replacement. It seems like they are sort of writing off a whole chunk off of the bottom of the pro market.
