I am so excited for this, I don’t think I have been this excited over a mini series since the final season of Breaking Bad. The cast looks excellent and as long as they stay true to the disaster I think it will be a hit. (It’s on HBO)
I’ve always had a fascination with nuclear disasters, nuclear energy and all things atomic. Back in the day I would watch and learn anything I could on nuclear things. I was a huge history channel guy and modern marvels and remember being in 6th grade when they did the engineering disasters on nuclear energy. (3mile island and Chernobyl) any time we had open research papers I would do it on some sort of nuclear disaster.
My bucket list item is to go visit Chernobyl. It’s now safe enough you can spend a few hours doing a tour. It’s sad but at the same time how many places can you go that are literally frozen in time and stuck to such a historical and engineering disaster.
On a side note, I think one of the best top gear episodes was when they went to Chernobyl.

OK, you're weird, but ... in college I did a 30-page report in my White Collar Crime class on what went wrong at Three Mile Island. Go ahead, ask me anything you want about PORVs.
I left Kiev the day before the accident. Didn't know anything about it until 4 days later, when we returned to the U.S.
I think the most interesting thing about it was the government coverup.

There has been a few good shows about those disasters and clean up over the past year. Pretty scary how vegetation in the area is not decaying. However I don’t get to excited about a show with a selected cast.
And I build, well use to until I got laid off, nuclear powered submarines. Hopefully I'll be back there building them very soon.
Here is a time lapse video of moving the newest cover to the plant. I had watched the entire documentary of building this cover and was very fascinated by it as well.
It was built a few hundred yards away and moved not on wheels, but Teflon coated tiles. The weight of the cover would've broken the wheel bearings pretty quickly.
I was literally driving only about 5 miles away from Three Mile Island event as it was occurring. I was listening on the radio and had all my vents closed. Really frightening.
I've been watching it in the UK, don't know if (just for once!) we are ahead of you in episodes, but so far it has been really good.
It is truly frightening how the people in charge were more obsessed with pretending it wasn't happening (and that if it was, it was someone else's fault), than with properly addressing the situation.
Basically it didn't matter how many people died as long as the state/party didn't look bad in front of the world....disaster?...what disaster?...its just a small mishap, it's all perfectly fine....nothing to worry about here!!!!!
If the program is accurate then it is also worrying how many times it seemed like technically they just didn't have a clue as to what they were dealing with...
What do you mean you wanted it on the other wall - couldn't you have mentioned this when we prewired?
Did you come to the US from Kiev or was that a vacation?
Vacation - high school trip.
We were tested for radiation exposure at the local nuclear facility after we returned home. A few of us picked up a very small amount of measurable radiation - we traveled to Leningrad/St. Petersburg after Kiev, and the atmospheric radiation passed through there. I didn't have any measurable radiation, personally.
Incredible experience visiting there, during the cold war.
