The more surface area on the back of the sheetrock, the more weight they held.
Point of failure with any of the wings was pulling the wing through the sheetrock, not the bolt out of the wing. Which also makes the most dramatic hole.
I't appears the toggler beats the spring wing from the fact that the togglers have even pressure on the back of the drywall, the spring wing type by design acts a little like a cutting tool, once it reaches the point of penetrating the sheetrock, it more cut it's way out than blasted through like the togglers.
