The client's handyman removed the doorking unit today and the phone lines went down. Is this normal? They have a Panasonic phone system inside the home. We have installed doorking before and I never experienced the phone lines going down when you disconnect the doorking.

Thanks.

The way I've always handled Door King in the past has been to set it to Intercom mode and connect it as a CO Line on a phone system. Is it possible the wire leading from the DoorKing to the PX is shorting out? If so, that might cause your issue.

Tre,

That's the only thing that I can think of why it would not be working. If the handyman somehow shorted the wires. Other than that I can't think of why the phone lines would go out. It makes no sense.

Depending on setup

Normal CO SETUP. The CO line loops thru the Doorking unit

So disconnect the wires, disconnects the CO line

Is there a “bypass switch”?

If not, then you will need to reroute the CO directly to the phone system.

Yes, that was it. There is a bypass switch.

Thanks for all the help.

For future troubleshooting --

This might have changed, but

If you call a phone number whose wires are shorted together, the call goes directly to message.
If you call a phone number whose wires are not connected to phones/phone system, your phone gives you the sound you get when the phones of the person you're calling are ringing.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
