What do you guys use for portable monitor/TV?

Recently, I needed to see the main DTV's (genie) output for the mini client pairing process (pin).
A few months back, I needed to navigate NVR's menu to set IP, before I could see it on the network.

My first choice would be some sort of HDMI to USB dongle to allow the PC laptop to serve as a TV monitor. That would require a laptop to allow HDMI INPUT. That way I don't have to carry 2nd, dedicated monitor on my truck.

2nd choice would be a dedicated 10"-20" monitor in robust case that I can store behind the passenger seat in my van for the once a year or so use scenarios.

I use this:

Only thing that could cause an issue if I have a resolution issue, but to date, over the past 4 years, it has never let me down and got me out of some jams and helped troubleshoot countless issues.

Thanks Mike.
So far, it looks like this might be a decent option: [Link: amazon.com]
Based on this review: [Link: techguided.com]

I'm still going to keep looking for HDMI-to-USB option as that would allow me to use my laptop and not having to deal with 2nd display getting tossed/broken in the van.
What's I'm finding is somewhat pricy due to the fact that most use it as gaming displays, therefore low lag is a concern.
For me, I wouldn't care about lag, color accuracy, etc.

I will admit that the option of using a portable monitor for 2nd display for my laptop is growing on me.

I have something like this...

Capitol has them up here too. I love having a test monitor in the van for those special times. (I have a second monitor at home running with my laptop, so I don't move either of them ever.)

I use the same exact one. Accepts up to 1080P. Then I bought a protective tote bag for it.

Mario, if you want HDMI to USB, I use the Magewell dongle. Use it for Zoom Rooms integration for PC sharing, switching customers from hardware based VTC to web based (need this for HDMI PTZ cameras), etc. Don't notice any lag at all. However, its like $250 each but worth it.

When you want to view a menu or something similar from another room, check out Reflector 3 app. $15. No trip to the van, or changing wiring needed.

Ive got a 42" pioneer plasma, pro model, you can have for free. You just pay the shipping. Its a great test screen as long as you just need component and DVI :)

Best Buy and Costco used to have 15" or so TVs for something like $120. I bought one several years ago. It does what I need and the damn thing even has a VGA input!

That's what I would be looking for right now, though I like that 7" TV.

I bought the 15" when a client needed a replacement BD player. Their TV was from that year or so when TVs did not display anything when you fed them a 1080P image. The new BD player turned on with the output defaulting to 1080P, of course, so an added display was needed so I could set the BD to 720P.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I have a couple of el cheapo 19" TVs when I need to see a larger picture.  I also have the small battery powered Atlona monitor that came in an HDMI test kit.

But this is my favorite:  [Link: summitsource.com]

A lot of the Comcast techs in my area are carrying this.

I have something very similar to this. I keep it inside of a tool box along with a handheld camera monitor.

We've used a 15" cheap lcd tv built into an aluminum briefcase. It takes rf, component, composite, hdmi, and vga. It has served us well for over 10 years. But we are finding a need to a 4K test monitor solution as well.

Might need to take a two pronged approach here. i.e. a simple tv for legacy connections, and something like the 4K dongle for higher resolutions.
I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV.
My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

I coulda writ that. It's exactly what I carry, except I've had mine for about four years.

When we were doing the overseas project we needed a 1080P monitor for use in the projection room. It had to rack mount. It had to BE 1080P, not just "display an image when presented with at 1080P signal.

We found a 24" monitor that had a cool rack mount feature (It sits in front of the rack and is connected to the rack) and had an actual 1080 display. Of course, it was broadcast quality and cost about $4,000....

I just realized this was described as portable. It doesn't work off batteries, so it's not truly portable, just small enough to move around. Tweety, is yours battery operated?
