I am looking for a part number and source for 12vdc cord ends. I am installing multiple camera and modulators that all use 12vdc, i have a elk power supply and distributioon block but when i get out to the devices I dont have the proper connectors to just plug into the devices. i have searched thru digikey catalog they have a ton of them but not knowing the correct size 5.5mm,3.5mm.miniture, sub miniture etc, TIA

Depends on the camera.... There is no Standard.... Thats why Radio Shack has 4 million different Low voltage connectors.
Most of the cameras I use are Screw down though.....

Impaqt is right,
If you are using cameras with the dongle cord hanging off of them the easiest thing to do is cut the power plug off and crimp/solder the power supply lead straight into the camera.

I have been cuting the cords and splicing on cameras. I have a an expensive high power supply i sized to supply all the 12 vdc loads but the modulators need to be plugged in. the 12vdc 1200ma transformers come with an end that plugs directly into the modulators. How do i measure these cord ends to order the correct ones form a supplier.

Go to Radio Shack and grab a handful of the ones that look like they'd be close to fitting. After you find the proper one, notate the size and then buy in quantity from a parts distributer.

Or, call the manufacturer of the camera and see if they can give you that info.

Duane, take one of the cameras to your nearby Radio Shack. They have a ring of test plugs for determining the proper outer and inner diameter. 5.5/2.1mm w/center-positive is probably the most popular plug for 12 volts, but as Impaqt said, there's no standard.

If you use Systems Depot, they have pigtails w/ the DC plug & 6" of wire w/ bare ends. They are around $1.25 ea. I think the manf is Everfocus. The SD P/N is EVEPIGTAIL. Easy to remember.
I usually buy them in bulk. A heck of a lot chepaer than Rag Shack, & no soldering. The length of the pigtail is perfect to feed from the Elk PS unit to the modulators in a SCS DD. I use this same setup all of the time myself.
Most of the small cams & modulators use this same 5.5mm/2.1mm connector, though as mentioned before, there is no standard.

mnmcomm The best price is not always the best value. |
