Ive got an install with an iPad mini 4 installed in a wall mount running the control system's app.

The iPad is powered by a TP link POE adaptor : [Link: tp-link.com]

The install has been live since Oct 16. Today i noticed that the iPad has "popped', see photo here : [Link: imgur.com] - Presumably the battery has swollen.

Has anyone else had similar issues with an iPad in a wall mount on constant charge ?

Can this be avoided by using a different charger rather than the POE adaptor ?

In another install i have the same setup, but power the iPad from the POE switch, i could programme the switch to turn off the POE for an hour every night at mid night would that be a good idea ?

Ipads aren't meant to be charging 24-7.  Does the ipad get removed often or does it live in the mount?  If it lives in the mount, can you use a managed POE switch instead and have it set up to charge on a schedule?  That should save the battery.

even a simple outlet timer on the existing POE would work.

This is a known problem... I've had it happen to 6-8 ipads over the years that were in iPort wall docks.

Apple apparently implemented a software fix for this is an update sometime last year.

Apple was swapping the swollen iPads for what I think was a $100 flat rate.  I used this service to replace several of them, but that was at least a year ago so not sure if the service is still available.  I think they even replaced some for free (out of warranty) based on the serial number.

Edit: Check this link and scroll down to battery replacement ($99):

We've fixed or replaced dozens of iPads over the last year or so. As mentioned it is a well known issue. It has helped our in-wall touch panels sales a bit, so there is some sort of plus in the equation.
When good enough is not good enough.

I have seen this too many times on iPorts. Incredible.
