Ive got a Lutron Homeworks 4 Processor that the IP RJ45 has broken on.

I want to programme the processor via the Rs232 D9 port on the processor, but ive not done this before, could someone let me know the adaptor i would need to connect my Laptops USB port the to Rs232 D9 port.

Would it just be a standard USB to D9 connector like the link below or would i require something else ?

Agreed!! I've used others in a pinch and sometimes they work, sometimes not so much...

Get yourself a regular serial cable to go with it. That or a pair of gender changers (1 male to male and 1 female to female).

Why? Because your processor has those little nuts and your usb to serial adapter has them also. This will block your ability to plug the DB9 end of your USB to DB9 into the DB9 connection on the processor.

Some times you can unscrew the nuts from one or both devices and sometimes it causes damage to the DB9. The regular serial cable should have screws that can be backed out of the way. Or just use the double gender changer method to extend your connection point beyond the nuts.
