The new normal?

Or par for the course? Haven't used Denon in years because of past issues...

10 years for me. Very low ratio so far till this year. Maybe I've gotten the lucky picks

What wasn't right with them?
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

Yes. We have had multiple failures with AVR-2500h.

Bad network card on one, replaced it (3.5 hours away btw). New unit makes popping noises. Waiting to get back out.

Another unit kinda functioned but was sometime unresponsive to ELAN. Not totally sure what the problem was it just didn't really seem operate correctly.

Another unit just placed was having HDMI issues over an ELAN HDBaseT extender and Popping noises. We swapped the Extender to a Snap one to see if that also cleared the popping. Jury out on this one.

When I talk to our distributor or the factory rep they both say have you considered Marantz.

Bingo. Without this, it's really hard to judge.

In the early 90s we had two defective NIB Yamaha receivers (and, just for the irony, no, I don't remember what the issues were, except they were not the same issue). The rep, whom I had known for fifteen years at that point, thought I must have been doing something wrong. Nope. Yamaha found them defective. And we never had another defective unit.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Overall we have had very good results with Yamaha. I recall an issue with a newly introduced cassette deck. The issue was discovered after the first shipment left the factory. Yamaha was going through their warehouse to fix the units in stock, but a few had already been shipped to dealers. Notice was sent out, along with an updated part. None of our customers received defective units. We had a unit on demo, but I had not yet noticed any issues. When the notice and parts arrived I checked specifically and noticed the issue -- low take-up torque. This unit would have become a tape eater.

Denon is at it again?

I gave up when I had a 100% failure rate one year.

You could have five times as many defective units in a row and still find that these are random occurrences.

It's worthwhile to expand our knowledge of things by spending a bit of time considering how randomness works. See [Link: wired.com]

There's a thing called statistical clumping that occurs in truly random series of events. It's normal for a random series to have ten things happen in a row on the same date. It's NOT normal for such a thing never to happen. The article illustrates that pretty well using buzz bombs from WWII and glow-worms.

Pretty interesting stuff. It goes in the category of stuff described in the online column "Bad Science" as 'actually, it's a bit more complicated than that.'

I’ve been installing Yamaha since 2009 and never even had to call tech support until a unit failed last fall. It took me a few minutes to accept the reality of having a bad receiver. Denon, on the other hand, was the bane of my existence when I worked for a denon dealer.

Really miss the Japanese builds from Denon. They were the bees knees.
