Has anyone tried the MOIP products from SnapAV? What are your thoughts on how they worked? Issues that you had? Thinking about bidding it on a new job just a bit hesitant. Dont see any threads on this product in a while and the product has been out for a bit so I figured someone has tried these.

Pricing isn’t all that far off from JAP, why wouldn’t you use a tried and true method?

ThreeP,
This could be asked about a huge percentage of new products.

Come to think of it, everything Snap sells probably was first tried out on this basis.

Is there something wrong with trying something new, even if it's very similar to what's available?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

We like products with OVRC. That alone would be enough for us to switch products if everything else was similar.

We did a bar with their system like the week it was released. We only had a few minor issues at deployment but it seems to be stable now.

We have it setup with all Araknis gear in a 4x22 configuration.

Especially since Blackwire will configure it for you. However, if it was another manufacturer where numbers could be a big deal, I could see maybe considering it, if it’s been proven by others.

Because it uses the exact same chips-literally, pop one of each open and look for yourself.

is far easier and faster to config initially.-

is far easier to add a transmitter or receiver later-

doesn't care if somebody gets cute and moves a patch cable to a different port

shows up on your Ovrc dashboard.

and works just as well- actually seems to have less issues or callbacks then JAP.

Just put in a 6x6 system using a 210 series Araknis switch. STUPID easy to setup. Took no more than 5 minutes to add the equipment to Ovrc, set it up, and setup a video wall. RTI driver can be better but it works well. Everything worked first time. I had one TV that wasn't working and it ended up being bad termination.

It works. My own set up is an 11x20. Stupid simple to set up (although I would like to see a more automated driver option for control systems. Basic drivers work but I prefer more customized drivers). I have several in the field and no major issues at all.

I notice, however, more threads and posts in various forums on constant issues with JAP and folks asking and trying to figure out how to fix things. Not saying JAP is bad, but i dont see Snap MoIP questions about issues in every forum. Just saying,,,

I like how you have have one TX and on RX, no trying to figure out what TX or what RX to use.

Ive heard some say they have done a side by side comparison and and JAP wins on pic quality. Dont really see how my pic could be much better really. It looks great to me, thus 95% or more of the public would agree. Those that want videophile experiences get dedicated sources anyway.

JAP switches faster but for me who cares if it takes a few seconds to switch sources.

I foresee prices coming down as market share grows.

No real problems so far. Got them in the wild and super easy to config and set up. I do have one weird one though: Moip system (obviously) using the split out of the transmitters to feed a local AVR (Pioneer SC65) that then goes to a JVC DALIHA 4k projector. All sources work fine EXCEPT a ROKU4 on the AVR. When fed directly to the AVR, the ROKU is fine, but when going out of the MOIP pass through, no joy (all cables good and under 1 meter). I'm guessing an unfortunate mix of HDMI chipset or voltage combo...

Please elaborate on your desire for a more customized driver?

I got some programming done with the driver and it basically has everything you'd need. One thing I found that didn't work well was the dynamic naming. It didn't appear to work in the macros. I had to type in an RX number and a TX number to create a switch command. If there are a lot of transmitters and receivers this can be a PIA. Otherwise, worked great!

The stock driver just shows tx 1-6 and rx 1-6. I always create a new driver from scratch with the names of the sources for the TX and room names for the RX. Makes building macros MUCH MUCH easier. Can be tedious without it. I also add commands for OSD pop ups, again, very tedious. I foresee a day when this is automated and pulls all the info from the controller. It IS possible and should be done (no OSD info in controller, but that too needs redone, some sort of TCM driver, that makes this process MUCH easier). This is regarding URC, not sure how it works on other control systems.

J+P has been at almost 100% reliability with us for over 10 years.

Their tech support is roughly 1000x better than Snaps.

MOIP uses MultiCasting...no thanks

VLAN switching is far superior

Audio matrix built into J+P

Tons of different flavors or receivers and transmitters.

Tiling

Video Wall

The MOIP Tx only does 8.91Gbs

Dante Audio built in

Daisy Chain Rx

Tried and True performance and over 10 years doing HDMI over IP.

I put a 5x5 MOIP in my house and it works perfectly. IP control scheme is dead simple.

I like it enough that when the pieces (if) go on sale again I'm going to upgrade my bar's AudioAuthority HLX to it.
