If you're knocking around San Diego, the best sandwich place is Poma's in Ocean Beach. A block away is Hodad's the best burger featured a couple of times on Diner's, Drive In's and Dives. Ocean Beach is kind of a funky, eclectic place to walk around and there is a lot of awesome food.

Not far away from OB is Fort Rosecrans cemetery which overlooks all of San Diego. A little farther up the road from Fort Rosecrans is the Cabrillo National Monument which is at the very point of Pt. Loma.

There are endless options for breweries, meade places, great food and lots to do.

As someone who was the #2 at a company that was the 11th dealer for savant. I have a little bit of experience with them. If you want any chance of sleeping at night and you care about your clients. Steer clear of savant.

You can't miss it because it's so long-winded (just like the moron who said it all. Did you see his 2-1/2 hour poetry slam at CPAC?) and takes up a lot of screen. You used the words “a couple more” which means two more than something else. It would be a minimum of 3. Your stupid post was quoted twice. I quoted it once to make sure my reply was clear and then only one other person quoted it, apparently not realizing what an ass you are.

I can't imagine their policies can be *that* strict. At least not based on my experience.

I worked for a company that was a dealer. I didn't care for Savant, but the boss sent us to training and we started putting it in. It worked, for the most part (you'd live or die by your profiles), but it wasn't nearly as slick as the Crestron stuff we'd done. But it deployed quickly in comparison, and even the entry level guys could get it 'working', so the boss was happy.

Anyway, I left to start a company of my own and honestly had no interest in dealing with Savant. But a former customer called me and needed some stuff done to his Savant setup that I'd installed earlier, so I called them to see if I could get some support. That was a pretty hard 'No', and I basically lost that job because of it.

Shorty after that, Bob Madonna came back and cleaned house. Then the Savant rep called me (and at least couple other people around town) and asked if I was still interested in being a dealer. I sat down with them and showed them a job I was working on, which oddly enough, I didn't sell - I was hired to do install only. But it was big, and looked good, and being a 'new company', I was kinda hungry I guess, so I made like I was interested.

And that was it. Account made. Access to software. Access to online store. Went to shade training.

I considered them for a couple jobs, but honestly, the parts didn't fit the application for one reason or another. Add in the licensing BS, the 'old app' that looks like it's from 1988, the 'new app' that just doesn't work for crap and requires an account for some reason...I'm sorry, I should't need an account to turn on a TV.

So we've been using Crestron. It's been good for the most part, but yeah, relying on a programmer for the heavy lifting still is tough. But the parts work well, and for the most part, they last forever. And lighting has a lifetime warrany. And Crestron Home looks promising. And no licensing, no accounts to start, nice handheld remotes...

And while I'm on it - Lutron isn't helpful either. There are a *lot* of systems here that are now failing and no longer supported (Interactive and Illumination). Myself and my partner were both QS certified years ago, but they won't talk to us since we're not big enough yet - never mind the PILES of work we've done over the years. So they're all getting Crestron, too. Even the wireless stuff. I'm not going to Lutron's 2-day course out of town just to be able to include a Grafic T in a Ra2 project. Crestron Infinet - same application, lifetime warranty and better software (IMO).

With the growing issues in the industry that have nothing to do with our installation or product (ex: unplug your cable box, unplug your AppleTV, unplug your router), I think I may get in the business of selling red and yellow delicious apples. What's the margin on those things?
