Rack has a midspan w/ power supply feeding 4 UniFi AP Long Range access points.
At one AP, ethernet needs to be extended. Would like to use a switch that is powered by the POE midspan and passes POE power through to the AP. The 2nd port which will extend ethernet does not need power.

UniFi shows POE requirements of 24 volts. Do any powered switches other than UniFi provide the correct voltage for this AP? I think UniFi switch needs to be configured - customer wants to be able to plug and play and connect himself. I don't mind keeping away from this. Is there a switch or other product that will allow him to do it without my help?

those Old Unifi AP's didnt use standard POE. you should switch to a current AP that uses standard POE.

Unifi switches dont even provide 24v POE.

What he said...

The only place I see Unifi 24v PoE anymore is their p2p radios. How old are those APs?

The UAP-AC-LITE & UAP-AC-LR will work on 24v or 48v POE.

All of the unifi switches provide 24V POE. you have to set it to 24V. That being said The best and lease expensive option IMHO will be a Unifi UAP-IW. Yes it an AP which you can shut off the wifi but its powered by POE and passes 1 POE out as well as standard ethernet

I’ve used the IW-AP’s (installed a couple this week). They are a good value, but they are not as effective as the IW-AP-HD. With the IW-AP’s be careful when using its PoE output port or the Access Point will shut down.

Also, one should use 802.3at PoE because af will probably not supply enough power if a PoE device is plugged into the IW-AP.

Aww, POE fella...

There are two versions of the UAP AC LR and UAP AC Lite.

The plastic feeling ones are the older ones and passive 24v only.

There are a newer version of both that has a more matte suede feel to the top of the AP, and those will support 48v af PoE as usual, as well as 24v passive.
