Client is only interested in Netflix. We've tried out Netflix and Prime Video. Both operate correctly except that the movie that's playing is just a black screen. Notices that normally are on top of the video are on top of the black screen; that is, it's not that the display is not displaying anything, it's that the program itself is just black. Menus appear.

Custom installer (not me) "programmed Fire Stick for everything." Netflix is set up for five different people. Client uses account with installer's name.

Sounds like its the installers problem.

Replace it or walk away.

Don't clear it and provide new login, credit card, etc? Could he have broken it?

They usually run on custom firmware and thats not the installers account. Its someones account the installer stole.

They are $69. Experiment over. buy a new one.

No one is that stupid. If you are getting programming for free, that normally you would have to pay for, then you KNOW you are stealing. They can LIE all they want about how they didn't understand... BS!

As Impaqt said the Firestick had custom firmware put on it. It is done, toast, trash, etc... Yes, it is possible for someone who 'knows how to' to re-flash the Firestick back to factory. But considering how cheap the cost for a new Firestick is, it is not worth anyone's time but to someone who knows how to do it (or a friend doing it for them for free).
Tell her "hopefully she has learned a lesson", now pay the legit price for things. This isn't like a sale at (insert your favorite department store).

Oh and a new Firestick right now, is only $39. And if you want the 4K version, it is only $49.

If the menus appear, why buy a new one, do factory reset and start with legal fresh account.

It could be that, but based on what it took to fix it, I think he was giving her the unit and paying for it himself in order to.. uh... get with her. (All registration on the unit was in his name.)

She wasn't interested. Except in the programming. The video programming. Yeah, just the video.

When he found that out he quit talking to her, quit answering her phone calls. Maybe this thing wouldn't actually deliver programming because he turned it off from his end.


And that's exactly what I did about eight hours ago. Good call.

Fortunately, the guy is being a jerk and not allowing any contact at all. It's hard to imagine that a creep would say "Oh, you won't let me molest you? I'll show you: I'll leave you alone!"

Sounds like something Frank Burns would do- "Oh, yeah? I'll show you! I'll just ignore you until you find me irresistable!".

Similar to Trapper & Hawkeye saying they were trying to make him look stupid and he told them "I don't need your help, for that!".
