Come to think of it, though, this product is VERY Metra-like. A few pieces of molded plastic to get something different done.

I used to make my own years ago before they became available. I used a Leviton white nylon power inlet and punched a hole in a single gang plate. I would usually put them at the rack so the display could be powered off of the same circuit and power conditioner as the source equipment and pre/pro in the rack. I used the twist-lock version.

I know it goes in an electrical box.

From the pic on the Ethereal piece, it looks like there are 3 exposed metal terminals on the back of the outlet connected to the pigtails of the three wires in the left pic. Maybe I am making a bigger deal out of this but my feeling was a potential for the bare ground wire to contact one of the non-ground terminals when pushing into the outlet box. If the wires connected to side screw terminals or pushed in the back, like a standard receptacle I wouldn't have second guessed. The snapav one has 3ea metal points exposed on the back and had an issue once with shorting out when using in a metal outlet box, which is what has to be used in a versabox. Versabox was remote mounted in closet due to stud spacing behind TV and used powerkit from TV location to versabox.

The Midlite piece I linked has the romex sealed to the body of the outlet.

for the record Snaps Powerlink is IMO the best in the biz. truly simple, allows you to use a longer cord if needed and everything is in the box (recessed outlet,male end,two OC boxes and a 3ft cord.

The bare ground wire would be screwed down to a box or wire-nutted to a ground wire, so could not make accidental contact with anything.

Now this IS the problem you worry about.

Surely a blue PVC electrical box is all that's needed, though a versabox also solves the problem.

The terminals are not exposed. They actually have heat shrink on them. The photo is not accurate.

I wish they just sold the power inlet on its own. Don't really need the kit. However, the drawback of snaps is its a single molded unit into the faceplate. Fine when used on its own, but the benefit of Ethereal's or Midlite is you can use it with a dual gang electrical box (power & power inlet) Or combo LV/electrical box with decors plate.

I also like using IEC female right angle cords for low profile.


Perfect. That resolves my issues. Its the pic that made me shy of using them.

I will order a bunch of these in with my next Ethereal order.

I found Infinite Cables a few years ago when I installed a projector and wanted to replace the 6' black cable (WTF?) because it was on a ceiling mount.

But if an old thread, but man am I glad I found this. I typically use 1-3 Midlite 4642w inlets in every job but Midlite is no longer carried in in Canada at ADI or AVAD. I was referred by Midlite to one distributor in Quebec, and I’m they wanted a $2500 opening order, and then at least $500/month. Considering I four disties within 30 minutes drive if me that wasn’t going to happen.

I checked and AVAD carries the Metra piece for 1/4 of the cost of the Midlite. I just placed a decent sized order that will keep me stocked for a while.

The stink is that the AVAD rep didn’t offer these to me as a replacement the last time I tried to order. I have the Midlite piece in stock for now but was starting to panic a little.
