I have an Echo Link connected to a vintage Audio Alchemy DAC >>> a vintage Acoustat Amp >>>>Kef Speakers. Sounds real nice...the bluetooth connection and Spotify connect work well. The Big Volume Dial on the front is awesome so you're not always having to use voice command or reach for your phone/remote.

If you use the input jacks, have you compared the sound from this with the sound coming directly from the source by connecting that to the preamp?

I just woke up so maybe i am missing something but i don't see anything about SONOS at either link.

Or are you saying that this new Echo Link device allows us to use bigger speakers and that they have their own versions of the connect (echo link) and the connect amps (echo link amp).

Okay after typing that out i am fully awake and i get it now :D.

Good question...I have not.

I original got echo dots for voice control of the various Crestron controllers I have networked throughout my system and also took advantage of the analog outputs on the dots to provide an additional audio source in each room. Of course the sound from the dot is nothing to write home about. The echo link provided a way to use an outboard DAC in my main listening room for streaming audio and that is why I purchased it. The entire purpose was to avoid using Amazons built in DACs. Since it cost more and is intended for integration into better sound systems, you would think/hope Amazon included a better DAC in the Echo Link than they did in the Echo Dot.

If anyone is going to create a Sonos Killer, it is going to be Amazon, Google or Apple. Apple has already failed.

I compared the sound from the Dot's 3.5mm jack with Airplay to my Yamaha WXC-50 and the Dot definitely didn't sound as good. Since the Echo Link has optical and SP/DIF out, I would consider using that at the head end connected to an AVR or integrated amp, though.

However, this concerns me-

Yes, the analog line-in and bluetooth only work on the local unit. Supporting the analog line-in for casting to multiple rooms would would require an A to D in the device. In my system the multi-room music playback does work well with a spotify connect internet stream and there are room grouping options (controllable via voice or the Alexa App).

Some of the 1 star reviews of the Amazon "Connect" are pretty insightful and provide us with good fodder to explain why it is probably horrible.
