One of the things i always find disproportionally time consuming on an install is manually correcting any lip sync issues that may occur when using a sound bar or speak / amp setup.

Wondered if anyone had any tips on doing this. Currently i load up this video on the TV and try sync it "visually" from there. ab_channel=dayjoborchestra

Any kind of actual manual adjustment is going to require reaching out and grabbing the lips of the person who is speaking. I don't think we're set up for this.

I have to apologize for that. It was a grossly unfair thing for me to write, especially right after james thanked me for some actual help and james provided the URL of a REALLY helpful file for use syncing audio and video.

Now, does anyone know how to download that video?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Dude, google YouTube lip sync videos. Run that through system. Adjust accordingly.

Do you use right click on your mouse? That often opens a whole new area of tricks that are very useful. One that I like is not having to re-write a post when a keyboard decides to highlight it and when the next key is pressed, it all disappears. Right click, select 'Undo' and it all comes back. Videos on YouTube can be copied, the URL shown and shared.

WRT lip synch issues- it would be great if we had access to SMPTE time code.

You assume that in every case there will be internet, in fact you probably assume wifi. That's a reasonable assumption, but haven't we run into unreasonable things over and over in this life? As an example I cite HDMI.

I assume that sometimes I won't have internet, so I want to have this on my computer. That's why I've got a file of AWG wire sizes and other characteristics, as well as TV channel frequencies.

highfigh,
It's amazing how many ways you found to not answer that question. To put it another way, here's what comes up when I right click on the youtube video. Which item tells my computer to download (and save) this video?
Copy video URL
Copy video URL at current time
Copy embed code
Loop
Troubleshoot playback issue
Copy debug info

See? No answer. I think you don't know how to do it.

That would indeed be great. Better would be if we could then sync the time code of two devices. How helpless we'd feel if all we could do is tell exactly how far apart audio and video were!

Wow! "No answer"? How many posts have you made that had nothing to do with the answer to a question (the one where you wrote that you didn't have time to post an answer being a glaring example)?

You think I don't know, yet it's EXACTLY the way you can cop videos on some sites. Hmm.

Normally, I would hope that you could infer that the usefulness of SMPTE time code would come with the ability to adjust for the differences but you seem to only know the difference between 'imply' and 'infer'.

What drugs are you on?

Now boys...
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Back on topic:

I don't think using a test source is the complete answer because I notice that each source has its own issue and CATV lip sync can vary from channel to channel. Movie channels are usually the most consistent.

For example, one could have a test video on a USB stick, but this will not correlate to cable box issues and playing the USB directly through the TV will be different than playing through the AVR, Blu-ray, or whatever. Some of the current AVR's are relatively "neutral" with lip sync. (meaning that they pass through whatever sync is presented to them)

Never mind that some devices/systems show more of a lipsync problem at 24hz than 60hz (so, like an Apple TV playing back movies but not elsewhere).

I had to pretty deep into an integra receiver to adjust a lip sync issue customer was complaining about.

Certainly didn't happen automatically, I even had to consult manuals of sorts to find setting. I'd call this manual.

With some of the stuff that you post, where I have no idea what you're talking about and I'm 15+ years in this business, I don't know why you'd call out this post. Everyone who should have gotten the message did.
