I think the rule for smart home electronics is...

You lose 50% the moment you open the box.
You lose 25% after 6 months.

At this point you are at 25% of what you paid for it. After a year you lose even more.

Example:

$6000'ish (not really sure of total because its loaded with cards) Crestron DM Switch for $300 [Link: ebay.com]

Current value is 5% of what you paid for it.

He didn't ask for the client's name, address and SS#! Surely you can spill the beans about the product upgrade without having Roger Stone come after you!

Exactly, I don't care if it's your Mom. The only reason I ask is I'm always curious when someone "rips out" the old POS whatever, and moves on product X.

It sounds like there was a decent RTI system in place, so I would hope one would move over or up to Crestron, C4, ELAN... somewhere along those lines.

I'd hate to see 10 Connect Amps or some sort Harmony BS go in, that's all.

How much is what? 10 zones of Sonos? 5 or 6 grand I suppose, plus labor.

Looks like 5% MSRP. Have been sitting on some good purple gear for too long myself- should have sold it off 3-4yrs ago when it was worth that much...

In my post I mention a $6000+ crestron DM switch that's selling on eBay for $300. So today's value is 5% of yesterday's MSRP.

I don't know what RTI costs but with crestron lutron the rules I stated usually apply. If that RTI gear isn't all current models it's probably about the same. There are exceptions to the rule like amps...because amps don't change much in terms of technology. Processors and remotes lose the most value.

Okay so I went to eBay and did the math and your $1200 price is pretty much in line with eBay.

Again I don't know what that stuff costs but with crestron lutron items that are used and/or discod the current value is like 5% of MSRP. RTI may hold value better because there aren't truckloads of it being pulled out of universities and offices every 5 years...landing on eBay.
