Have you any experience with the Dell mini PC with Display port? This is going to be connected to an HDMI switch and I have since signed off with them that I am not responsible for their PCs or connections, but I did say I would make some suggestions to try before they Amazon some CCS. Looking for the best DP to HDMI adapter. TIA

converting a display port source to hdmi only requires a cable adapter.   you don't need anything special.  such as:  [Link: smile.amazon.com]

now if you want to connect an hdmi source to a monitor that has a displayport connection, then you have to use a piece of electronics.  We have used the following from Amazon.

I'm sure there is something better, but these did the job.

I was recently investigating this and the question of audio came up. I'm still confused about it, but I've solved the problem by demanding that what needs to be played must be supplied as a file. I can then set up a uniform playback method.

Some installers I know say display port doesn't have audio (again, I'm still confused and it might be Thunder or Lightning)(no joke -- who comes up with these names?). Someone at Apple says it has audio, but it depends on what you connect it to.

(In my application we had to supply video to a Roland video switch that doesn't handle audio, and, separately, send analog audio to an analog PA mixer.)

If you could clarify the audio situation, that would be a help!

Thank you.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Anything with Displayport 1.1 and higher can be Displayport ++ in which case, if you are going Displayport > HDMI with an adapter, the source will reconfigure itself to output a proper HDMI signal through the Displayport connector. In this case, it behaves exactly like HDMI. Including all the audio formats you would normally get with HDMI.

Just need to look at the back of the device and see if the ++ symbol is there. We use it a fair bit (mostly with Dell PCs actually) and never have a problem. Although in the early days it was a bit hit and miss. The dual mode ++ versions fixed all that.

For peripherals like this I always try to go with products from either StarTech or Anker. If you search amazon for the product with either of those 2 company names you’ll find something.

From my experience they are both rock solid brands

There's probably 20+ of these installed on sites I've worked on. Zero problems. The Startech.com site has another similar part that only does the video if that's what you're looking for.

Original/early DP spec didn't have audio included, it was added later, that's why you see all the stuff about if it carries audio or not, it just depends on which spec the hardware is based on (if it's early stuff or not).
