Loaded Pronto Edit software into my Windows 10 successfully but can't seem to get Pronto to connect using Prolific USB to Serial. Windows says the driver is not operating properly. Anyone know what I can do to get it going?

I am a long term Pronto user and have no idea what a "Prolific USB to Serial" is. I suggest you post on the Philips Pronto Professional Remote forum, which is also on Remote Central under Professional Remote Controls. That forum is dedicated to the Pronto Remotes.

As I recall the remote base (Charging base for 9600 and 9800) just connects to a plain old simple USB cable with the specific end that matches the connector on the base which I believe is a "mini-A". The 9400 connects directly to the same cable, not through the base

If he's using serial he may be talking about the original Pronto.

See here: [Link: remotecentral.com]

And specifically [Link: remotecentral.com] which seems to talk about Prolific and Windows 10.

Thanks Daniel, You are probably correct. I can't even remember the original Pronto. That was a long time ago and I am getting to old.

When I connect hardware to my iMac it simply works. When I attach hardware to my Windows 10 laptop all I ever get is:

"Windows is searching for a solution". It never, ever finds one.

I gave up trying to connect a URC remote which uses Active Sync to my Windows 10 laptop and had to dig out a Windows 7 machine to get it to connect. Whatever good the Bill Gates Foundation does in the world, it will never be enough to atone for the sins of Microsoft.

Windows 10 automatically loads the latest driver. If you go to Device Manager you'll probably see your adapter has an issue. You need to force it to use the driver from 2008. Do a web search for the following driver.

To be fair, I think URC made a very poor decision in designing a remote control around a PDA/desktop sync function. That never made much sense to me. Like why? Just an attempt to save writing some basic upload/download code?

Thanks, Mark. That jives with what I was reading. And make sure it's set to COM1 if you can.

When I have used usb to serial, I sometimes have to change the port setting from 1 to 3 or some random number.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
