Hey all, happy new year.

Just curious what you've been using for HD over IP distribution these days. I've always looked to JAP, just wondering if anyone has had luck with anything else.
Hey, careful man, there's a beverage here!

I used Elan once. The setup was a bit of a PIA, and I had one receiver that was defective that screwed up video on the whole network, but after it was running it has been solid.

Given the feedback I’ve read, I would give Snap a try if we weren’t an Elan shop

We do a bit of Crestron's DM-NVX with good success. We've been using it since they came out with it and completed several projects this holiday season. It's a no brainer if you are a Crestron shop.

Snap's HDMI bandwidth was published @ 7Gbit/s or so around Cedia. HDbaseT @ 10.2 Gbit/s is already getting us in trouble. All it takes is a client messing with settings in their Apple TV/Nvidia/Roku and the system is broken. And you are holding the bag on selling an inferior product.

I would stay as far away from this as possible if you are doing any kind of quality residential work.

#1) It is being re-encoded (compressed), so messing with settings isn't going to break anything. It will do the specs to the TV (4K, 60Hz, 10bit, etc.) but it is going to lose picture quality due to the compression.
#2) JAP does the same thing. Only difference is they will not tell you what bandwidth they re-encode at. Depending on the codec & bandwidth, JAP might look better or Snap might look better (I personally haven't had a side-by-side). JAP does offer more features right now.

Ass roddymcg says, the crestron NVX platform has been the most predominate HD over IP that I have sold in the last year. With the addition of the
DM-XIO-DIR-80, it so simple. Each box is an encoder or decoder and comes in stand alone form or card based for a rack mount frame.
Will use some Metra stuff for smaller 1 to 1 applications though.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

Ya, ya, ya, same song and dance. We are all inferior to those that use only the highest end products, thus we all suck, are not professional and don't offer any value and quality.

The stench of arrogance is boring.

That is Ok, we'll send you a participation trophy. Where would you like it sent?

Or should we start a thread, mediocrity? How to go toe to toe with an Amazon installer!

I have been easing off several clients sitting on proposals for JAP and AVPro as consumer trends are moving away from set top boxes and have all but ceased for physical media. AT&T techs will grant non LoS status just using the magic word and the nations leading MSO is in beta with their live streaming app. For about $250 each display in a residential setting can have Roku and an ATV and cover most, if not all desired content. Additionally, off-air seems to be refusing to die off like its competition. The evolution of content protection and resolution has been in constant motion and to lock in at this point to today’s standards makes me nervous as hell. DM is, and has always been the benchmark- but is just as susceptible to sunsets. Twisted pair can’t keep up. Fiber “shelf life” makes me shiver. Conduit for the win, but likely will remain empty for the immediate time being.

We pull and use fiber on a regular basis for DM and even for the Inneos extenders. Very few of our clients have cut the cords and still rely on cable/sat. I personally cut the cord a couple year ago. It is not a compromise for all.

We also get to work in very large homes with dedicated mechanical rooms so we have a home for our gear in many cases. We work with some top notch builders as well who get what we need to support out customers.

I do more than my share of jobs with a cable box and Apple TV stashed behind the display. With an optical out to a Sonos Playbar.

Don't fret. I'm sure Julie and the "Pros" over at CEPro have a nice DYI product that will fill your needs. Don't let the trunk slam you on the way out.

Who hurt you? Why are you so jealous? Is this because I called out your beloved Snap? I called them out at Cedia and Julie's CePro Facebook page. If their specs have changed enlighten me. If not, have you read Cedia's HDR white paper?

Do you have some facts to bring to the table. I like debating facts and learning, this is why I came to remote central 16 years ago. What is wrong with trying to put out the best product possible? Be the best you can be...

So far all you have done is whined and attacked me meanwhile bringing nothing to the table.

What's wrong is that we are all in different markets. I'm sure there's not too many competing with Amazon installers on here. We work in a fairly vast field, as it pertains to solutions. It's rare that only one product fits the bill. The reality is that there are generally several different options. We have used MOIP and found it to be a very good solution for many types of projects. I've found Wyrestorm to be fairly impressive as well, and they offer 4 different levels of video over IP. We looked at their 600 series at CEDIA and was extremely impressed with the latency. They were demoing 4k PS4 distributed over IP with less than a hundredth of a second behind the feed directly out of the PS4.
