Earlier this year I went in with SONOS direct (with the buy-in) and have used it quite a bit. a LOT of connect AMPS.
Now They are discontinuing the Connect AMP and forcing a move to the AMP.
(which has had questionable performance from many on here).
After reviewing my options from Denon and Yamaha, I think its time to move on. I did a HEOS amp this week and it had a TON of connectivity features the SONOS does not and I can make better margin and get it same-day with no shipping. Multi-room players and amps in one chassis, ect.
thank you - NEXT!

This is why we moved to HEOS 2 years ago. We still do the occasional Sonos system, when the client already owns it but otherwise, I can't make up a reason to continue to use it over HEOS. Wifi needs to be rock solid but that's a given if your playing in this space. I can't say that I've seen any issues with the system over the last 2 years except for a single project where an AVR was dropping off the network, and not showing online in the app. Denon replaced the unit and no issues since then.

Needs Eero network, look into it.

This, especially for retrofit.

I'll throw a little wrinkle into this.... for those of you NOT doing Sonos (Or if you are, I'm not looking for Sonos comparisons..), what has your experience been with HEOS vs MusicCast? Pros/Cons? I know everyone's interface is different, not necessarily better, but how has their support been? Integration? updates brake things? How long to remedy? etc....
I know they both offer zone/amps for the custom channel (one chassis for 4+ zones) and actual rack mount options..... Just looking for some real work feedback. TIA

The MusicCast piece I use has been great, although the Spectrum router has given me some problems. Who am I kidding, the ATT router sucked, too. The MusicCast pieces I have installed work great, sound great and are easy to operate.

Tech support has been great. Installed a HEOS where the people couldn't understand how to use it and the IT guy didn't explain their network in a way that applied to what I needed but HEOS support told me what I needed.

In case anyone has a customer who has Sonos Connect units and wants more of the functionality seen with HEOS and MusicCast, Parasound has a piece with 4 zones, each with DAC for optical or coax in, stereo HP and full range out, stereo input and output, mono HP/LP/Full range out, 12VDC trigger and level controls.

I have been a Denon/Marantz Dealer for years. I install probably one or more receiver from either a week. they have not been any problems at all. tech support is great when needed (rarely).
my complaint is connectivity options with Sonos. i had 3 clients in a month that just wanted an amp for a device which had only optical out. HEOS has it, along with digital coax, Sonos did not.
and the fact that HEOS is built into the receivers now it gives me a single platform when an AVR is needed in the mix.
Sonos has been good - it works, they just dont have the mix of features or products that I need for my clients.

It’s actually rare a client demands Apple Music compatibility. If it’s a dealbreaker I can still do Sonos. I have more Spotify and pandora users than Apple Music
The Yamaha amp does airplay as an alternative

Same old discussion.

If they do it themselves, not your type of client.

If they don’t want to mess with it, just want to enjoy it, they will connect with you.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

What are people using, Amazon?
Spotify connect is clunky if you're dealing with multiple rooms from what I've seen with Musiccast, between them and Apple Music thats 60% of the market.

I think apple music missed the boat. Clients seem to care about Spotify the most and then Pandora. 1 client in the last 5 years has SiriusXM and tons of iTunes content.

Apple Music has 20% market share already is 3 years old. Younger people seem to love it, probably not the target market around here yet.

Spotify has 40% market share at 10 years old.

These are the services that people are using.

Next we're going to start talking about using streaming players that don't support Netflix (75% of market) so we can make a little more margin. (They can use Hulu and Amazon Prime)

Does anyone know if the HEOS Link trigger output is a pulse or a level?

HEOS works OK, I found the setup procedure to be over the top for both setting up a new system and with simply adding an additional player. Though SONOS is catching up with the recent changes they made that require a user name and password for the system account to add additional players.

It's 12VDC. I don't know of any amplifiers that use a pulse to turn on and stay on.
