It's a decent sounding amplifier, certainly better than CONNECT:AMP.

Then the 2 I installed were clearly defective.

Someone with an audio generator, loads, and a scope should spend 15 minutes and see what it does..
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

I've always thought the Connect:Amp was a turd, but have been impressed with the new AMP.  I've had one of the AMPs since summer for Beta testing.  It's a pre-production unit, but I don't think the hardware was changed.

My experience is sound quality of AMP over the old Connect:Amp is night and day difference with the new AMP clearly better.  I've done some A/B/C testing with the new AMP compared to the old Connect:Amp and also Marantz SR6012 and prefer the AMP (Marantz comes in as a close second and the old Connect:Amp isn't in the same league).

When I swapped from a Connect:Amp to the new AMP even my wife who doesn't give a shit about any of this immediately commented on how much better it sounded when playing music.

Not sure what's going on with those of you reporting that you can't get enough volume out of the new AMP.  Mine is in our Living Room connected to a pair of bookshelf speakers and we use it every day for TV & music with volume settings that are usually between 20-35%.

I just did a test by grouping our Living Room and Back Yard.  The back yard has an original Connect:Amp powering a pair of outdoor speakers, and the Living Room has the new AMP powering a pair of bookshelf speakers.  It's not a perfect comparison because of the different speakers, but with both zones set to 50%, the new AMP has noticeably more output.

That could just be due to different volume control chip taper- what difference do you hear when they're at WOT and only a few clicks above minimum?

You're experience is what I was expecting (except I don't think the Connect:amp in the right situation is that bad). Unfortunately the two I did it was just not the case. I emailed Sonos and they want me to run a diagnostic to send back but I have to wait till I'm on-site.

Good news, if you are interested in purchasing Sonos stock, its $9.58 share now.

hasbeen was extolling the virtues of buying Sonos stock in a previous thread...

They do say to buy low, sell high. Looking at the current trend with their stock, you could easily believe that the price will drop further before the next financial report where the stock will recover. Then it will drop again until the next financial report...
Would I want to be the Sonos CEO right now? Nope.

I'd wait a little longer to buy stock. Wait until Putin Puppet causes the market to crash even more and then buy your stock.

Realistically...where can Sonos go from here? Amazon and Google are sprinting into the multi room "Sonos killer" audio market. $100 widgets will replace $200 widgets. Audio quality will suffer but people won't care.

Sonos will either drop to meet them (at their peril) or will aim higher and move up a notch. The Beam indicates the former, the new Amp indicates the latter.
If they head to outdoor speakers and their very own streaming service they will differentiate themselves well enough. But if their stock price drops too far... I'm picking they will be bought out by a company unable to do anything even remotely cool in the multi-room area.

Wow, I would blame more on the speakers than the amp. The Sonos amp impressed me so many times... i think the only time i was not happy with the end result was a connect amp driving 4 Bose Freespace landscaping speakers we installed one time. we ended up using a Connect amp + a Crown amp.

Were talking about the new Sonos amp, not the connect amp. (Stupid nomenclature)

The Connect amp left a lot to be desired, but compared to the AMP it’s heads and tails better (assuming there is something wrong with the amps that have no volume)

Just did my first Sonos amp. Perfect scenario for it. Two in ceiling Triad R28’s connected to a bar TV. Now I’ve done the R28’s enough to know that they sound pretty good, even off the connect:amp. I was anxious to try this because of all the good things I’ve heard and have seen guys powering tower speakers off it.

Now I know the R28s aren’t great but they are pretty good for what they are.

This amp made them sound awful. And I couldn’t get much volume out of them, even turned up all the way. I checked that the limit wasn’t turned on and it wasn’t.

A few weeks ago another poster posted the same thing (goldenzrule) is there a bad run of these? I cannot believe that this is normal, because if it is it’s going to have to be connects into 3rd party amps.

Anyone else seeing the same thing?

Not saying someone did it, but is it possible that the wires were connected with one pair reversed? Most amps have the + terminals at the outside when they have a horizontal row but Sonos decided to buck that trend and go with - + - +, from left to right and I completely disagree with their decision. That would certainly make the speakers sound terrible.

When I heard the Amp playing through a pair of small speakers, my immediate thought was that a speaker was reversed- when I turned it toward the other, the bass did improve, yet the wires were connected 'correctly'.

I wonder if the paint was wrong on the sticker. Hmm. I almost want to say it was -+ +-

I also don’t like the removable binding posts on these amps. If there was infact a manufactures mistake on the paint/sticker this could explain a lot....

Thinking about this, wouldn’t it just mean one of the speakers would be out of phase?
