Hi All:

I bought a Ring Elite for my home and I am connecting it to a Pakedge SE-8P. The CAT6 run is approximately 75'.

I am plugging the the Elite directly into the switch and not the injector that comes with the Elite. I know this is obvious, but I thought I'd state it anyway.

Whatever I do, I cannot get the Elite to grab an internet connection from the switch even though the switch powers it up just fine. The light on the switch doesn't even come on.

I tried using the POE injector that comes with the Elite and plugging that into the Pakedge RK-1 router and that didn't work, either. The light doesn't come on on the router either.

I then thought it was the cable so I used a network tester and it the cable passed. I have 3 CAT6 there and I have tried all 3 with the same result.

The only remaining thing I was questioning was the use of the EZ RJ-45 ends. I'm going to try regular ends and see if those work.

Wanted to see if anyone else has had similar experiences?

Thanks!
Ali Hashemi

Short leash it with a pre-made patch cable to test it to determine if it’s a wire problem or a hardware problem. And take it straight to the router to see if it’s the switch

definitely do this first. Sounds like a bad Elite to me.

Its most likely not the switch. I've done all kinds of Pak Edge switches and never had a single issue

I have nothing to add other than I used EZ fittings with an Elite before without any issues.

Tried this--still didn't work. Straight to the router with a small cable using the POE injector provided works fine. So I guess this boils down to the switch? Strange how the long cable with the POE injector didn't work...

I switched the Elite once already and had the same problem!

Have you tried replacing the EZ-45s like you mentioned you were going to?

I've seen problems with these connectors before when used with certain products. Sometimes the cut-off ends of the eight wires stick out ever so slightly and cause a short of some sort at the base of whatever they're being plugged into.

Other times, not all 8 pins get fully crimped on the EZ-45 probably due to not crimping hard enough or from a bad or worn-out die.

I know these connectors are super easy to use but I stopped using them a long time ago. It's not that hard to terminate a standard RJ-45.

I have not used the ring elite. But I know the Doorbird uses whatever 803.xx type x that sends power and data over only 2 pair. Not every POE switch or injector supports this protocol. I can only say that the araknis switches do. Again, never used a ring so I am not sure this is your problem.

He mentioned using the Poe injector. This comes with the Ring Elite.

Maybe it's like the Ring Pro and sometimes needs 12-48 hours to boot up for the first time...
