Sonos Amp(new model) and cable box located in rack. Multiple Cat6 to TV in kitchen. Would like to use ARC. Any way to make this work without adding a remote?

So I am a little fuzzy on the question, but assume you want to use the TV remote. The new amp, with HDMI-CEC enabled on the TV and the ARC connection between TV and the new amp, gives volume on the amp with the TV remote and displays it on the TV.

The thing that just occurred to me lately is that with a remote rack, you may need two HDMI extenders, one for signal from cable box to TV, and the other for ARC back to the amp.

A recent house I wired has RG6 to all TV locations. This allows smaller Comcast boxes velcroed to the back of the TV. I then had to run HDMI back to the rack location for the ARC connection from TV to AMP.

Unless I just don't understand...

You’re understanding correctly. I’m trying to keep the cable box in the rack but I might be able to put it behind the TV in the kitchen. Did you need any special extender that supports ARC?

Thanks Tom. In your outdoor television example you consider the use of a 65' HDMI cable for audio return. That doesn't answer any HDBaseT questions. In the same thread:

I've also been beta testing the new AMP and have been using it on the living room TV with ARC and it's been 100% reliable.  I've even done some testing with ARC over HDBaseT and that also worked.

ARC over HDBaseT with Sonos Amp? Or ARC over HDBaseT in another setup? In any case, which HDBaseT set worked?

I have only prewired. Testing in a couple months.

Paul may have more current feedback.

It's annoying, but we just pre-wired a house and they will have the new Amp. We ran the speakers for each zone to the TV location and looped them, then ran them back to the rack. This allows me to have the amp local to the TV if they want to have the ability to play the TV through the speakers. I'm really glad they made the new amp rack mountable (Sort of), but it has ARC so it really needs to be close to the TV.

Does the amp even have analogue input? I realized today with the beam that ARC is a useful option in simple installations because many of the stock TV remotes are bluetooth only.

I have learned after several frustrated outcomes and post-installation calls NOT to trust the damn ARC. sometimes the TV dont see the amp, sometimes the amp dont see the TV. try getting support from the TV manufacturer, impossible. Try getting support from sonos, they will blame the TV, the Cable, the dog.
I now put in my proposal a balun with IR TX/RX and call it a day.

I've had the AMP in my own home since summer doing beta testing and haven't experienced a single hiccup with ARC using the new AMP with a 2017 Samsung QLED.

We only have the TV on maybe 2-3 hours a day, but the use is mostly my wife and son who would both let me know immediately about any problems.

I did do some quick testing using one of the latest SnapAV HDBT extenders that supports ARC and it was able to return audio from the TV back to the AMP.  This was all done very quickly and temporarily with CAT5 cable strung through the house across the floor.

For those of you wanting to use HDBT for ARC with the new Sonos AMP I'd encourage you to contact your HDBT manufacturer/distributor of choice and inquire if they've done any testing with the new AMP.

So correct me if I’m wrong, but while one HDBT extender previously worked, now we need two??

One from a cable box or hdmi switch, and a second back for ARC?

I guess the answer depends on your situation and where the AMP & cable box are located.  At home I have a Samsung QLED with One Connect Box using the long One Connect cable to place the One Connect box in the rack.

Because of this, all HDMI connections are right in the rack and only speaker wires are extended to the Living Room.

Can you confirm how you set this up? I tried an extender that claimed it was ARC compatible. Its ARC LED even indicated it was working - but no.
Connection was:
TV HDMI (ARC) -> HDMI Cable -> HDBT -> CAT6 -> HDBT -> HDMI Cable -> Sonos Amp.

Or did you use the ARC return path and output audio to the HDBT Toslink(and HDMI adapter) into Sonos Amp?

I did the testing months ago, but I think the connection path is what you described with all HDMI (no Toslink).

Just had my first issue with the Beam. Client did a Sony TV update and now ARC doesn't work. I went to the house and Bravia Sync was on, turn it of then on, no luck. Set output to PCM, no luck. Factory default the TV, no luck. Factory default the Beam no luck. Changed HDMI Cable, no luck. Ugh.

I now am using the Optical to HDMI adaptor and it works, but now my client is upset because the volume level doesn't show up on the TV anymore.

The TV is the XBR55X900F running whatever update was downloaded 2-3 days ago.

Any ideas? Ugh, I hate ARC.
