Im integrating a legacy system and in one room im reusing the clients STR-DA3400ES from 2012 (never opened) its just the kids playroom so I figured why not. This is proving to be a mistake.

How on earth do I get it to pull audio from HDMI? under the input assign I have to choose something and auto isnt an option. My only options are the digital/optical/analog

Before I went in and input assigned I had audio coming from the HDMI...

TIA!

I think you answered your own question.

I’d assume digital if all you need is the HDMI audio.

digital only works with optical or coax....Im just going to hook the components up with optical/coax. spent enough time dicking around with it.

Only problem is the EA1 doesnt have an audio out and I dont have an extractor. Cost of not doing a new receiver I suppose. Im glad the new ES AVRs arent this horrendous.

I remember way back that Sony AVRs did not accept audio via HDMI. Is it possible this carried on as "recent" as 2012?

Not much help now but, I know it pulls audio from HDMI. I don’t remember enough to tell you how. We sold Sony back then. They did have a screwed up menu with hard to find settings.
