Has anyone had picture flicker problems using an hdmi to dvi converter. I installed a Denon dvd with hdmi and connected it to a Sanyo lcd projector ( fbo ) that only has dvi. When I changed it to component no problems.
Im at a loss if its the dvd player, converter or the projector.

Thanks

This is why I love this forum.

Yes - I have experienced the same exact problem. I have a client for whom we've installed a Denon 3910 DVD player (has HDMI output) feeding a Dwin Transvision3 projector (has an DVI input). I wanted to stay digital, so I used an HDMI-DVI adapter cable. When watching DVD's, the picture would flicker quite often (maybe every minute or something like that). I went to a component video connection - problem solved.

I haven't had the time to troubleshoot - I'd sure like to hear if anyone else has had this problem and resolved it.

I hooked up a Panny DV-S97 dvd player (hdmi to DVI) to a DWIN TV3 on saturday. It was stunning! No flicker. Black levels were perfect (no crush problems) the picture was first rate. I only wish this player played SACDs. It does play DVD Audio disc. Faroudja processing is better than the faroudja processing in last year's Sammy HD931 (I have not tried the HD941 but understand it retains the black crush problem of the 931 when going into a DVI display device).

Dr.k,

A little more info on your equipment would be nice. Which Sanyo projector? I have a Sanyo Z2 as well as a Dwin TV3+ in my showroom. I have had problems with using DVI in the Sanyo but mainly due to my equipment being 50' away and I'm not willing to invest in a Gefen soloution. I was able to get 480p to resolve over a 50' DVI conncetion but got DVI sparkles when stepped up to 720P. This is a well known problem with many DVI connections at 50', so I punted and ran component. The Sanyo Z2 is an in expensive projector and if I attempt to start partnering it with expensive equipment to solve all of the DVI problems, it starts pushing the price up too much - and it ceases to become the lesser expesive alternative that I want it to be in my product mix. So component it is for now!

Dean,

Doesn't the Denon DVD3910 also have a DVI-D output?

Did you try this connection and if so were the same problems experienced?
Just curious.

I would put my money on error correction causing snyc problems.
While digital video (& audio) is just 1s/0s. The quanity of them that gets from point A to point B is paramont to picture/sound quality. If there is loss, there will be error correction. This will take up processor power while attempting to replace the missing data. This in turn can cuase sync problems. You might try a different cable, adaptor or both. What brand and lenght are you using.
Also, you will find that a heavy duty DVI cable will do distance better than an HDMI cable.
www.digitalconnection.com has more data.

Not my experience! The Panny S97 I installed last week to a DWIN TV3, was hdmi out of the DVD to DVI in on the TV3 proj - and we used an hdmi to dvi convertor along with the hdmi cable supplied with the S97 (adaptor was not included with the S97). Worked great!
