just tell him to turn the volume up.

:)

That's a great precis of Post 27.

And program his remote so it plays some music, every time he turns on the system, before the projector turns on.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

He will still complain during silent parts of viewing "the fan! the damn fan!". I can see where that might be annoying to some annoying folks. But, as the thread shows, there are options. Some just cost more than others but 100% possible to address.

The 6030/6040s are super quiet on normal mode settings.  I know with the 6040 if you set it to high power mode or digital cinema mode that the fan is considerably louder.  Do you know what the projector is set to before going down a long journey of finding a replacement?

I would go with a display. You don't need a dark room. Don't have to replace bulbs. 100" and less, push for a display. Sony 100" or Planar 98 QE (nor sure about HDR, but most people don't care). I have only had one customer ask about HDR.

You’re not going to get a 100” display for someone with an Epson budget

I didn't see a budget mentioned anywhere

No, but we’ve all done this long enough to connect the dots too

I understand that. But I've also walked on jobs thinking this is a waste and been surprised. I have a client whose entire house fits in my living room. He bought a 65" Z9, new rxa-1070, new network, mx990, and more. Sometimes they surprise you.
