Remember when drivers ed used to be something that was taken very seriously?
Remember when there used to be PSA's on TV about safe driving practices?
Remember when they used to take wrecked cars from accidents and put them on street corners?

Not so much anymore, and it shows!

Its a right, not a privilege these days.

Here in Washington one would think they would be professionals at driving in the rain...….NOT!

Do you really want to tell them do so that? You'll need to be far more specific WRT what 'this' is.

And if you don't believe that, check out [Link: reddit.com]. The part you can't see in that URL are the words "malicious compliance."

And oh, yes, here's a couple of horses being introduced to snow:

I actually commend the drivers ed now....It takes 2 different sections to get their license, the kids need to have 50 hours of drive time, a portion of that being "night time" driving before they can advance to the second portion of the class.  We have to keep track of it on an app.

They also need to know how to parallel park, etc. or they simply don't pass. My kids school has a mangled car sitting right next to the American flag every year.

I drove myself to drivers ed at one of my school teachers house that as I recall took a few weeks after school...But I lived in the sticks.

My wife can't parallel park to this day.

I didn't pay any attention to any of this stuff when my oldest boy was going...now that my daughter is in the middle of it, I'm a nervous nelly.

Interesting. Are boys intrinsically lower risk than girls? Or, is there a special case for this girl?

Every year, we have people crashing during the first snowfall, as if they have completely forgotten how the car handles on pavement that's not warm and dry. If I get the chance, I go to a large parking lot and do a few donuts, to find out how my vehicle handles on it- I don't like that kind of surprise while I'm in traffic. Haven't crashed in decades but MKE is #20 in this list of worst cities for driving. The fact that the dropout rate in MKE public schools is ridiculously high contributes to the high number of car thefts, many with a police chase. Too many result in the deaths of innocent people, too.

I think I would be a great driver's ed instructor from the standpoint of teaching how to drive safely but I bet I would make a lot of students cry after observing them.

In some areas of MKE, putting crashed cars at street corners would just cause some to say "Cool- a free car" before hauling it off, to be chopped.

Good news! MKE made the Top 10 for Worst Cities To Live In-

Nope- boys are much higher risk.

Me too.

Glad I'm in a suburb.

I'm in the suburbs. A couple weeks ago we had a small snow, perhaps an inch here 'n there. I passed three slip and slide cars waiting for a tow -- during a 15 minute drive.

---

Years ago I was driving on an Interstate during a very bad storm in a car that handled poorly on slick roads. I was crawling along at a reasonably safe (no one should have been out, but I had to get home) speed. Suddenly a high end 4-wheel drive blasted by me in the passing lane. A couple miles ahead I crawled by the 4-wheeler that was now way off the road in a field.

Father’s are just more protective of their girls, and mothers typically pet their sons.

Found the link, 105" so far:

Just an update. Conditions are horrendous. Snow is piling up quickly, winds are rising, there are power outages, and the dead bodies are stacking up like cordwood. Law enforcement is out ticketing anyone driving that’s not an emergency. (Thats because of the flat landers that came up to ski) And I’m pretty sure I saw the first of the Four Horsemen go by. WOOOOOOO!

Bingo.

My sons have been driving vehicles... tractors, go karts, etc. quads, since they've been young, they have an understanding of how it all works...my daughter however had no interest in driving anything until it was license time..

This is exactly the issue. For most boys driving is part of their DNA. For girls its a means to an end (getting from point a to point b. For boys the drive between the two points is as or more important than the destination.

Point A is Home, Point B is the Mall.
