To clarify: This voltage (12V) tip to shield , indicates the processor port is an "output"
If so it will not serve my purpose which was simply "to trigger on the video hqv processor" from my AVR.

Again.....Epson told me this was an "in" not out but I think they are wrong.

It is unusual (in this industry), but Epson could be correct. It is possible that the sense of things is inverted and that grounding a pin with voltage is interpreted as “true” input. While I haven’t seen it in this industry, I certainly have not experienced all possible products.

Bottom line, one can only be sure if one has proper documentation.

It’s a cruel world and Mother Nature holds all of the high cards.

elannut,

Projector Trigger Output: See Page 20 . Also check page 45. It is possible that there is a "Direct Power On" option for the processor.

Installing the slave cable may help your control situation: See Page 1

And, this might be a helpful hint.

The OP actually posted this same document in Post #12 which provides an answer to his original problem. Plus it gives him even more features. Talk about hiding in plain site.

Now the question is what types of (spare) cables does he have running from processor to projector? He just needs to make up a null modem cable. If he has a spare Cat he can make RS-232 adapters* with the proper pinout configuration.

*Ernie: Note the word "Adapter" and not "Balun"!

Appreciate last two posts.

I interpreted the function of the slave cable as to turn on the projector when the processor was turned on.

From what I am reading, it seems the trigger is for dropping the screen not for turning the processor on.

So I think the bottom line is same. I will have to use a trigger relay device or something similar.

That looks to be the case.

Do you have the remote for the processor? Can you send an IR "On" signal to the processor with a macro when you turn on the AVR?

Yes. I do have remote and right now I turn on avr and processor with Harmony. The reason I was seeking a "trigger turn on" is because sometimes the avr goes on and the processor does not and then I have to sync them on or off again.

Sometimes adding a small delay between commands can help these situations. Also be sure that emitters are properly placed. Changing the order of commands might help. Finally, out of pure desperation, insert multiple power commands for the processor.
