We pretty much exclusively use Control4, but as a favor to a GC we are trying to rescue a project. The project features five TV locations where:

1. Each TV has a dedicated FiOS cable box. The cable box is hidden, but an IR repeater system has been installed.

2. Each TV is a Samsung smart TV, and the client regularly uses the smart TV functions.

3. Each TVs has a Sonos soundbar

I image one control scenario involves the use of 2 remotes per TV: the FiOS remote, which controls the TV power, cable box and Sonos volume, and the Samsung remote for the smart TV functions.

The client is OK with this scenario, but I am wondering if this can be improved upon without forcing them to upgrade to Control4 or forcing me into supporting a more entry level IR only universal remote?
If it's not simple, it's not sufficiently advanced.

Samsung remote may be able to work the whole thing. [Link: samsung.com] Normally the IR blaster gets tossed in the trash but just maybe you could pull this off in this application.

Try using only the Samsung remote by enabling CEC and specifying that you are using an A/V receiver for audio -- using an arbitrary model for the PLAYBAR Volume commands.

If you are using BEAM, it will pickup Samsung Volume commands via CEC.

2 years down the road, one of the TVs will get changed, and the whole issue comes up again cause the new one doesn't work like the old ones. Or now we want an XYZ on this TV or ....

Put in an EA1 and SR260 for each and have a supportable system.
Technology is cheap, Time is expensive.

Ouch. Maybe EA1 and 4 Z2IOs? Single SR for 5 “rooms”? EA at each panel would require one EA3. Though EA1 can do Director now, this excedes the recommended count. Plus the fact that Sonos moots the streaming abilities... Would look to ProControl or Logitech- it’s a crappy scenario...

I second Pro Control & get a damn Roku or ATV for the client, holy $hit don’t let them use “smart hub”
Knowing that Gold went up a few K makes me think "well now I have to do a better job on selling more equipment".

If you're Control4, be sure you compare your cost of a ProControl vs EA1 bundle.

Coupled with LAN requirements and hours of massage time.
