Some of you guys are more well versed in networks then I am. for nothing more then curiosity is the following possible? (I know it is not currently possible with eero and other like products)
In the case of EERO and other like products. would it be possible (theoretically) to have your modem go into a switch then out to eero? then have eero backfeed that switch via the same cable for the rest of the network? obviously the switch would have to be managed.
As far as network topography goes, is something like this even possible?

I think a router is a necessity.
|

I think that if it can't work, "why do it" doesn't matter. Doesn't every network need a router? This has none.

Router/Eeros needs to be inline between the Modem and switch.

If the switch supports VLANs, then the connection scheme you mention will work.
The key is to place the switch port used by the modem and the switch port used by the WAN port of the main EERO (i.e. the one acting as the router) on the same VLAN, and no other ports on the switch can be on that VLAN.
The VLAN is necessary to prevent a device on the LAN from snagging the one public IP address that the modem is prepared to issue.

One could use this arrangement to use PoE from the switch, rather than an injector. Here are some recommended switches.

Curious as to the reason myself. IGNORE .......... Only thing that comes to mind is modem location has one Ethernet to area where switch needs to be located and the modem location is a WiFi dead zone or would require even more additional Eeros to get full WiFi coverage then if you could hardwire the Eero after the switch more central. .............. I had to edit what I wrote cause the more I think about it I don't get why this is needed. Especially because there would be 2ea networking cables then between the switch and Eero(router) location to do what was asked. There also is at least 1 networking cable running between the modem and switch then as well.

I'll presume that you have one cable in a place and really need two?
One to feed the 'router' and one to return from the router back to the modem location where you need the switch to feed other already existing equipment.
Assuming it's a proper category cable, split the 4 pair into two sets. No it's not to Ethernet spec, and if you can run a cable, run the cable. Buy adapters online, or make it up yourself.

I still want to know why. Why not just put another eero in? Also any ISP modems actually have router abilities anyway, which makes me wonder if you’d be creating a problem.
