IP works fine--just a pain to setup as you have to run through some activation. Example program does a good job of explaining and providing a template for the activation page.

We've been controlling Sony TV's via IP for a couple years now and are very comfortable with control. We don't use RTI so I can't confirm that specifically.

Go IP. Setup is not a pain. LG setup is a pain. Im running my Sony on WiFi and its been rock solid. Now, I dont suggest WiFi because I did find that if the wifi reboots while the TV is off, the TV is very slow to reconnect to wifi.

I have had during periods of a long power outage, the Sony TV's do not get an IP address from the router. I have the TV's set to get their static lease from the router. This just happened recently with the most recent storm we had. Most of the city was without power 1-3 days. I had two clients that couldn't control their Sony TV's with IP. Both using TRC1080 and both using Tik w/ Ruckus. The Sony TV's were even hardwired. I ended up rebooting the router with the TV's on to get the Sony TV's to respond to IP.

I also had a similar issue on two Roku's after the outage. Both were showing in the ARP table, yet neither would respond to IP control. I had to reboot them remotely to get them working again.

Honestly, at this point, I still like using an emitter and feel like it is more reliable than IP. I have had IP working for 1-2 years, then all of a sudden it just doesn't want to work.

On the RTI forums there's a free third party IP driver. No ridiculous setup and works great.
