Has any been able to do a side by side comparison to see which service has the best picture? I’ve always preferred direct tv in the past because I new the picture was better than COMCAST. But it seems the picture from Xfinity with the new hardware has a pretty good picture. And now that the IP drivers have finnaly been released, I’m concidering making a move.

can we say f*ck on this forum? Because if we can, I'll say f*ck Directv. Their boxes hate being distributed via SDI matrix switchers, and their only solution is to put one box per television.

In a system where I have eight rooms with 38 screens, that's not going to happen... lol
We can do it my way, or we can do it my way while I yell. The choice is yours.

X1 has better picture quality as long as it’s not in the city. Since DTV went 4K their PQ is garbage.

Installing X1 on Saturday, and I’ll be able to run both for a while on the matrix. I’ll be excited to do some side-by-side testing to see which one really looks better on my Sony Z9D.

Xfinity quality varies depending on where you live. As much as it pains me to say it, where I live, it is excellent (and I am very picky). Generally speaking, this is the case, but it also depends some on who owned the franchise before comcast bought them and how long ago that was.

I suppose the upside with DTV is that you know exactly what you are getting regardless of where you live. It's consistent.

How very ironic.
How very AT&T.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

We recently set up a 75" Z9D with the X1 and homeowner actually commented on how crappy the local news looked - switched over to 4k ATV to prove the TV would make a great picture. Then had to explain why the local X1 feed looked crappy - all for a $200+ per month cable bill.

We have developments around here where Comcast has fiber to the house.  The PQ is so bad at these jobs it's almost unwatchable.

How about those who have Comcast and coax to the house that is near this aforementioned developments?

I've yet to do a side by side, but X1 in the Rockies has improved over the recent years. With how difficult DTV has become to work with it is a no brainer sending people to Xfinity.

I gave UPS a bag full of STB boxes to send back today, I had a smile on my face while doing this. :)

[Link: en.m.wikipedia.org] - would take a wild guess that these are predominant at most “neighborhoods” built from the 80’s on. Not FTTx, but close enough.

I knew that cable, at least Comcast, in most areas are of the fiber/coax hybrid. I was just thinking that it would be funny that the hybrid system would have a better PQ than the all fiber areas... I wouldn’t put it past the cable companies to do such a thing.

I too have noticed a lot of variability in the quality of image with Comcast being the video source in almost all of my projects. In most cases it seems that the streaming version of the same content is equal to slightly better than the “cable” version.
