A customer has a soundbar and wants to add a connect. The soundbar has been in less than a month, so we had to go through the whole deal with setting up a sonos account then. But to add the connect to their existing system, I need the account password. WTF? Who the hell has been breaking into homes and installing free connects without the home owners' permission to cause a need for this type of security?

Yep. It definitely discourages pushing additional sales of Sonos products. I try to always keep the passwords.

We actively discourage the use of Sonos and all other DIY products.

You should read the security steps involved in setting up a control system to work with SONOS via the new API. Just a bit overboard for being able to play and pause music.....

But yet it allows anybody that is connected to their network to access their paid music subscriptions (Pandora etc).
I am a trained professional..... Do not attempt this stunt at home.

I would have used something else, but this client already has Sonos in another property. And the husband has severe hearing loss and can hear the tv through the sonos sound bar (he knew this because of the other property).

Seem everything has an account nowadays. did we not write down the account information a month ago and now no one knows it?

Seems it would be faster to just reset the password or even reset the original sonos and re-register both of them to a new account.

Just use their cell phone number that you have stored in your phone for their WIFI and their SONOS passwords.

I wonder if the password will annoy the Sonos employee when he / she pops around to take care of the free install the customers new product when purchased directly from Sonos.com...
This industry is not getting cheaper and cheaper, we're simply convincing ourselves that we have to push the cheapest option to customers.

Did anyone else get the email about updating their resale certificate with Sonos? It said they're having another company manage the process for them, so instead of just sending the cert to them you now have to go to this third party's web site and do iti there. Step one? Agree to their terms and conditions before you can proceed. Step 2? Create an account.

That might be the last step for me. It's been getting harder and harder to stay enthusiastic about their product.

This is the only time we would install Sonos - if the client already has Sonos we had installed previously.

So far we've moved two clients from Sonos to MusicCast and they like that they can also monkey with their RX-A receiver on the MusicCast app.

You guys seriously crack me up! F Sonos and their low margin consumer crap! We've been very happy with "non-consumer", "non-DIY" gear from Denon or Yamaha. And passwords! Can you believe they want a password now?!?!?! If you did want to deal with passwords you might as well stay in bed. It takes a password to unlock your phone to turn the alarm off in the AM....LOL

There can be an argument between Crestron or any control system versus Sonos. But comparing Music Cast or Heos against Sonos is a non argument IMO. They are the same product from the same type of company looking to sell to the same client base.

They're dumping old products- nothing new, but I hate having to compete with manufacturers.

To make it worse, Costco has deals that can't be matched if the dealer buys through distribution and Sonos has a fixation on their required dealer buy-in. I don't need a PlayBase and after hearing it, I doubt I would sell one.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."
