So customer has an existing brick fireplace front in a room getting remodeled. The fireplace front is built in front of a sheetrocked exterior 2x4 wall. I can snake conduit down into this cavity behind the Sheetrock and brick. Want to have this to be backed to change or run new wires in future. Currently TV will be a Samsung Art, Q7 or Q9.

I need to get access to the conduit, electrical etc.if run in this cavity. Would have mason cut out what is needed since he has work to do here anyway. is there any deep backboxes or backboxes with extensions? What do others do in brick fireplaces? Typically use the veraboxes or intuitive and those are for normal 1/2” Sheetrock

Nothing plastic would normally pass code. Metal box from Chief or similar would be your best bet.

You can use a four square box with an extension to make it deeper, but the question of how much space is between the brick and fireplace- is it an insert, was it site-built masonry....?

What is directly above the brick wall?

Site built masonary.

I am going to check to see how deep the cavity of the 2x4 framing drops down to the fireplace. As far as depth above the firebox I believe it’s brick + small gap + 1/2” Sheetrock + 2x4 framing to exterior sheathing.

I thought of the 4x4 box. Not sure if there are boxes that could take 1 1/2” Carlon LV Conduit. Wasn’t sure if there was anything larger I could use.

Maybe this would work with an extension ring.

You may run into problems with an inspector if you use LV flexible conduit- there are minimum distance regulations when working around fireplaces and they used to require that combustible materials be a minimum of 2" away from the masonry.

I’ll check but the way this fireplace looks like it was originally built is that the masonary firebox was right in the exterior wall and surrounding it is the wood framing with Sheetrock. Then a brick wall that never went up to ceiling due to soffits etc. (ceiling is only like 7’8”) was built in front. More decorative. Definitely done after the face since I can see the header of what used to be a patio sliding door that was turned into a smaller swing door which is now bricked over in front of the Sheetrock wall. I would be at least 12”+ above from where the actual masonary firebox Sits now for this LV box. Chimney itself is all on the exterior, thus behind the exterior Sheetrock and sheathed wall. No chimney is inside the house.

Used to use photo bucket when free to post pics in the past. What do people use now? I can post pic of the fireplace.
